Throwback to the we designed and styled with expert construction by last spring! 🄰 Still love this adorable little bathroom! All of its finishes and this pretty paint color are linked via my profile (click Pinterest >> Treehouse Tudor).

You can make a big impact in any bathroom with paint, styling—and even by swapping one simple fixture. Here’s the budget breakdown of this mini makeover: shower curtain $49, waffle hand towel set $28, set of four bath towels $73, bath mat $48, new vanity sconce $200, can of minty green wall paint $60, digital art downloads from Etsy printed at Walgreens plus frames $60, decorative plant and soap dispenser $40. Pro tip: Green tones (like the mint walls and olive green towels) can add a lot of warmth to white and grey rooms that can feel cold without the final touches in place. Plants do the same! 🪓

Can you relate?? 😜 To be fair, I think one of the best teachers of all is experience. TRYING THINGS. I have tried so many things. I was decorating my bedroom as a teenager. Painting cabinets and walls crazy colors in my college apartments. Drawing floor plans *for fun* as a child šŸ˜ I trialed so many colors and styles and layouts and combinations over so many homes and so many projects that eventually, I found my way. But I’m also very glad there is little to no photographic evidence of my early ā€œdesignsā€ even though they got me to where I am today. 🫣 😬 🤣

Here for the color. šŸŽØ I’ve been designing unique flips and spec builds for over a decade now, and I don’t believe there is any such thing as color trends or any rule that a home should be neutral to maximize resale. A well-designed home will always look good no matter what colors are used. And most buyers love a beautifully curated and unique home! While few people have the design eye to execute unique and colorful looks, plenty of people appreciate and are drawn to them.

Color doesn’t scare buyers—bad design does. For too long, people have been told that ā€œneutralā€ is the only way to sell a home. The truth? Well-designed spaces always sell—whether they’re bold, colorful, or layered with personality. Safe doesn’t always mean better… and sometimes the most memorable homes are the ones that dare to stand out.

Whether I’m flipping a home or staging it, my goal is a unique design that stands out in a sea of things that tend to always look the same. And for me, I’d say it’s worked out pretty well to date.

Do you agree or disagree on neutral being ideal for resale? šŸ˜‰

So many delicious little details in one simple image…
New construction can absolutely have charm and character—like these transitional townhomes we designed for in Oakley (all sold). Each detail was carefully chosen: doors and hardware, detailed trim work, railings, flooring, and more. (Rug is vintage, from my own collection. Actually from my own kitchen just to take this photo. 🫠)
