For God so loved the world, that He gave us His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16

I was reflecting on this scripture verse today as I thought about how well Ash Wednesday and Valentineโ€™s Day fit together.

God infinitely loves each one of us and so greatly desires that we return that same love to Him with our free will. In His love for us, He knows our weaknesses and gives us opportunities to return to Him.

Today, we have the opportunity to renew our strength and turn our hearts back to God as we prepare to journey with Him to the cross. I pray as Lent begins, that you feel Godโ€™s love for you and that you continue striving to love Him more each day.

I've seen a few people wondering how they're going to celebrate Valentine's Day when it's also Ash Wednesday, and it reminded me of some marriage advice that I once saw Fr. Mike Schmitz share. I think it might have been advice he had heard from someone else, but the gist of it was to find someone who could fast. To find someone who could put aside their own wants and will in any moment, for something greater. Because that would be someone who would be a good spouse and who would be willing to do the same for their spouse and their family in the future.

And I agree. ๐Ÿ’•

So maybe celebrate Valentine's Day a day early, or maybe we can look at Ash Wednesday as a reminder that true love involves sacrifice.

Austin and I were blessed to get to spend two weeks away in January enjoying sunshine and warmer weather, but we still found beauty in the cold weather when we were home. I love these photos that Austin took one morning before work because they focus on some of the little details and the individual snowflakes that can be easy to miss.

Remember to be thankful for even the small things and find God's handiwork all around you. โ„๏ธ
