Golden Triangle RC&D is proud to announce Mia Burnett as the recipient of the Billy Roland Legacy Service Award, presented at our quarterly meeting on April 30, 2026.
This award honors a graduating senior who reflects the lifelong values of Billy Roland—integrity, service, and community leadership. Mia exemplifies these qualities through her strong commitment to school, church, and community involvement across Mitchell County.
Mia has served as a Georgia 4-H Pollinator Ambassador and previously held the role of Georgia 4-H State Vice President (2024–2025). She is also active in her church youth group, school worship team, and community service projects, including monthly food drives. In her community, she serves as Junior Board President of the Friends of the DeSoto Trail Regional Library and has spoken to local civic organizations as a youth ambassador.
She is also a former participant in the River of Words art competition, further showcasing her engagement in environmental and creative programs.
Mia plans to attend the University of Georgia to study Agriculture and Environmental Communications with a minor in Entomology, with future goals of becoming an agricultural lobbyist.
Golden Triangle RC&D congratulates Mia on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates her leadership, service, and bright future ahead.

The Grady County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Golden Triangle Grant in support of its ongoing commitment to public safety and first responder preparedness. This grant has provided critical funding for the purchase of specialized training equipment, allowing deputies and emergency personnel to enhance their skills and readiness in a variety of response scenarios.
Through the responsible use of these grant funds, the Sheriff’s Office was able to acquire much-needed training resources without placing additional financial burden on local taxpayers. In fact, by leveraging the Golden Triangle Grant, the agency successfully saved Grady County taxpayers approximately $2,000.
This investment in training equipment directly strengthens the capabilities of first responders, ensuring they are better prepared to protect and serve the community. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to seeking out funding opportunities that improve public safety while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Many of the families in rural Southwest Georgia do not have access to traditional financing options like bank loans or credit cards.
The Golden Triangle RC&D Household Water Well Program offers low-interest (1%) loans for repairs and replacements — but sometimes the cost is still more than a family can manage.
That’s where the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund grant makes the difference — helping cover the gap between what a family can afford and the total project cost.
Together, we are restoring safe drinking water and improving the quality of life across rural Georgia.
