Love this!!

On a Sunday evening at the University of Texas, a gaggle of students discussed their dating goals.

Ocean Pierce-Shimomura wanted someone “to love things with them.” Marielle Abrams envisioned someone who is patient — and tall. Carter Cawley hoped for “someone who wears a Texas tee,” he said. “Not A&M.”

The students are enrolled in a dating class offered by Lifelong Learning with Friends, a nonprofit that gives students with intellectual and developmental disabilities access to classes at UT infused with rigor, accessibility and fun.

One of the first sessions I have with my life coaching students covers the “Wheel of Life,” which asks students to examine how satisfied they are with key areas of their life. Among the “wedges” they grade themselves on is “fun.” I used to not pay too much attention to that wedge, because invariably students prioritized fun more than “grades,” “school,” or “health.” But things have shifted since the pandemic. I now ask many students with a lot of concern: “Are you having enough fun? Is that fun in person?”

At New York University, leaders are hoping to encourage a student-led culture change in an effort to spend less time online and more time living life.

They want students to have more fun in person, together. The university president’s goal: “Collective effervescence.” https://wapo.st/4wfcerO

This will be great for biotech students!

Tonight’s not your average patio hang.

We’re hosting a private event, “Behind the Pipeline of Biotech,” from 5:30 to around 7:30. Expect smart people, good conversation, and a peek into the world most people never get to see.

Not on the guest list? No problem. The taproom is fully open, the beer is flowing, and we have lots of room inside.

Come grab a pint and catch the energy.

Dino Nest 2026 - Night Event 04/22/2026

A call from Da Vinci High’s Gretchen Connors for volunteers! She needs about 10 more people! I can’t make it this year but it’s always a LOT of fun, and the students work so hard!

DINO NEST - April 23rd, 2026
Dear Esteemed Business Professional of the Davis Community!

The Da Vinci Business Project - Dino Nest (formerly known as Dragons' Den) is underway. Students are hard at work on developing business ideas for Davis, and we would like to formally invite you to join us on the big night to hear Shark Tank like pitches and evaluate the investment opportunities.

Dino Nest 2025 is on Thursday, April 23 from 5:15 PM to 8:30 PM at the DV Campus.

Sign-Up to Panel here - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4FA4A92AA1F49-63432700-dino #/

What the evening looks like: On the big night, we would meet at 5:15 to eat some early dinner and discuss the logistics of the event and paneling process. Please check in Room 601 in the new Pamela Mari Tech Hub. You will be placed in grading teams and have a chance to review the two businesses you will panel. An overview of the grading and negotiations will be given at that time. After, everyone will have about an hour to move around to check out all business ideas. At around 6:45 panelists will move into their assigned presentation room for paneling. Each room will hear two 30-minute presentations, and the Dinos on the panel will make the crucial decision of whether or not to invest. If you have seen Shark Tank, it is just like that. The event should conclude around 8:30, and when Dinos would have fulfilled their duties and cleared to leave.
All persons that sign up to be a panelist will be emailed the day before with a confirmation of the event, and any necessary details for attending the event. It will be live and in person with no zoom option.

Thank you for your continued support of the Da Vinci Community and we hope to see you soon!!
