Percussion Ensemble member Jason Pieck will be honored as the university’s top graduating senior when thousands celebrate earning a bachelor’s degree at five commencement ceremonies at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center June 12-14. Pieck will be presented with the University Medal — for excellence in undergraduate studies, outstanding community service and the promise of future scholarship and contributions to society — as well as a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at the ceremony at 9 a.m. June 14. Lecturer Matilda Hofman is the artistic director of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble. This coming weekend, June 6 and 7, she conducts two performances of "A Soldier’s Tale & Steam." Featuring members of the UC Davis Empyrean Ensemble, the concert features the world premiere of David Dominique's "Steam" and Igor Stravinsky's "A Soldier’s Tale." Performances are in San Francisco. On Thursday, June 4, the Dept. of Music's Student Ensembles offer two free performances of different programs. Coordinated by Pete Nowlen, the first concert is at 12:05pm and the second is at 4pm. Both concerts are in the Ann E. Pitzer Center and are free and open to all.

The choruses of UC Davis — which include both the students and alumni — joined together along with the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra for a rehearsal of Rosephanye Powell’s “The Cry of Jeremiah.” The work will be performed in concert on Sunday, May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

From digital data and technology to the environment, healthcare and the body, graduate students from across the College of Letters and Science at UC Davis, are pushing boundaries with their experimental research and creative expression. The results, varied in medium and discipline, will be on display at the Arts & Humanities 2026 Graduate Exhibition. The multidisciplinary showcase runs June 4–20 at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art. The opening night reception on June 4, 5:30 to 9 p.m., is free and open to the public.

The Voice Students of Zoila Muñoz will give a free recital on Thursday, May 28 at 5 p.m. in the Ann E. Pitzer Center. The program includes music by George Frideric Handel, Christoph Willibald Gluck, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Claude Debussy, Henry Purcell, Georges Bizet, Charles Gounod, Sara Bareilles and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Free and open to all.

Mariachi Los Mesteños of UC Davis perform their first solo concert on Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Pitzer Center. Directed by Oscar Garibay, the university’s popular mariachi ensemble has developed a huge following in only a few short years. Free and open to all.

Get into the "swing" on Tuesday, May 26 when the Dept. of Music offers two ways to swing. At 5 p.m., you can swing your partner at the Campus Square Dance hosted by the Bluegrass and Old Time String Band, directed by Scott Linford. Featuring guest caller Evie Ladin, the dance is held in the Vanderhoef Studio at the Mondavi Center. Free and open to all, but capacity is limited. Then at 7 p.m. in the Ann E. Pitzer Center, the Big Bands of UC Davis take to the stage for a swinging spring concert. Directed by Otto Lee, the bands play classic jazz standards and contemporary works. This performance is a ticketed event and tickets can be purchased at mondaviarts.org.
