Davis Family and beyond! We'll be having a Sunday Sol this Sunday in the arboretum! (Putah Creek Lodge). DJ's Tro'pa, Mr. Glass, and Vee! Join us as we melt deeply into the sweaty sort of bliss that only a summer in Davis can bring. As always, we will have sumptuous grass, music & hoops along with whatever you would like to bring to make this afternoon extra special. (ideas: people that you love, lawn games, art supplies, food to share, blankets....) We'll be starting around 4ish and go till dark. Come Chill with us!
In 2006 I went to my first Rainbow Gathering in Colorado. An Israeli woman let me borrow her hula hoop and that was the first moment of a decade long devotion to sharing the magical healing power of the hoop. Soon after I hitchhiked to Portland and witnessed my first fire hooper and my passion was further ignited…. two weeks later I was adopted by some lovely people in Eugene and made my first hula hoop on the Day Out of Time.
The Day Out of Time is something that Whole Earth Founder, Jose Arguelles speaks of in relation to the galactic calendar. This will be the 5th year of Hoop Space at the Whole Earth Festival and the last one for me. After a decade of making and sharing hundreds, maybe thousands of hoops I am bringing this magical project to a close in order to put more of my energy into other passions.
All these years working with the sacred circle has profoundly changed my life in beautiful and interesting ways. It has connected me to my body, the earth, the cosmos, my dance, my friends, strangers from across the country, children, grandmas, grandpas. Its given me so many super special moments… moments when people realize they can do so much more than they imagined. It taught me how to learn, how to keep my brain malleable, creative, playful, my body flexible and strong, my heart open, and my feet grounded.
Thank you everyone who has been a part of this magic and who has supported these projects over the years. Thank you to everyone who ever bought a hoop from me or who came and played in the spaces I’ve created… because it was for you. It was all for you and it feels so good when my gifts are received. Thank you to the hundreds of people who have received these gifts and the hundreds who might show up this weekend at the Whole Earth Festival…. who might still be touched by this simple joy of propelling a circle around ones body… who might allow themselves to play, to be vulnerable in front of their family or their friends, to take their shoes off and feel the earth under their feet, to be free.
