From the hive to the jar, nothing here is rushed.
It’s time, care, and deep respect for nature.
This honey comes from the Andes mountains in Colombia, produced by Africanized bees — strong, resilient, and deeply connected to the land they live in.
Each drop carries altitude, native flowers, and the silent work of thousands of flights.
More than food, it’s origin, story, and care.

✨🍯 A sweet story that transcends millennia 🍯✨
Did you know that archaeologists discovered jars of honey in Ancient Egyptian tombs over 3,000 years old – and the honey was still preserved? 🤯
That’s because honey has a unique composition:
🐝 Low moisture → microorganisms can’t survive.
🐝 Acidic pH → prevents bacteria and fungi.
🐝 Bee enzymes → produce natural substances that preserve it.
For the Egyptians, honey was considered sacred: it was used as food, in religious rituals, as medicine, and even as offerings for pharaohs in the afterlife. ✨⚱️
Honey is not only sweet, it’s a true time capsule of nature. 🌍💛
👉 Did you ever imagine that honey could survive intact for millennia?

Last Saturday Sept 28, 2024 we went on a project survey with my friend and super champion for the and discovered the Plebeia stingless bees collecting resin on a recently trimmed pine tree. Stingless bees use the resin to make propolis and cerume (mix of wax and propolis) to protect against diseases and build their structures. This was the first time the resin collection was recorded on this species in the US, since these bees have been here since 1948 and just recently have been rediscovered! You can read all about it in Robin’s article on Bay Nature that is in my bio.

It was just another great day in working on the and recruiting more volunteers and collaborators. On this trip we met Mateo from who has kindly volunteered to create a webpage for the project. We also went to see nest #5 that is thriving in a private property and where Sarah and Dawn are making observations on their entrance activity. Then we went to meet with Corey at the who is building a Meliponary there along with a pollinator garden. The day ended with a visit with Annie from who has recruited volunteers to build another meliponary near the at Rinconada Park and fancy beehives are being built !
