This group is open to anyone who cares for a family member or friend with needs, especially related to cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. This group will explore your concerns in a supportive and safe environment.

GRIEF SUPPORT CIRCLE

This session will be led by Ali Ramsteck, Director of Human Services & Mather Center. In this circle, individuals may share their experiences of loss, find comfort in community and begin healing together. Through open dialogue, participants may connect with others navigating similar journeys. All in a compassionate and judgement-free space.

FREE AARP DAY AT THE STAMFORD MUSEUM AND NATURE CENTER

Seniors are invited to register for up to (2) two complimentary tickets, while supplies last, to take a self-guided tour of Stamford Museum & Nature Center. Guests in attendance may also advance purchase discounted planetarium show tickets on the Museum's website for $8 each (normally priced at $30 each), while supplies last.

Out and About Trips was on the road again, this time to Grace Farms in New Canaan. Participants enjoyed this peaceful oasis, while connecting with each other in the tranquil setting.

OUT AND ABOUT TRIPS: OLSON WOODS NATURE PRESERVE
Friday, June 5th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. (Rain date June 12th).

The Darien Land Trust welcomes you to this hidden gem, a peaceful Nature Preserve with a beautiful lagoon. Elizabeth Mathus, Executive Director of the Darien Land Trust, will give an introduction to the land trust, share the history of the land donation and will identify some of the native and invasive plant and tree species found on the property. Please bring binoculars to spot a variety of ducks, the resident blue heron, birds of prey and painted turtles resting in the sun amongst other wildlife. Chairs will be set up beside the lagoon, situated only a few paces from the parking lot - this is a great way to get out into nature without any hiking! Snacks will be provided.

The preserve is accessible from Heather Lane, Darien. Call At Home In Darien at 203-655-2227 to reserve your spot and arrange transportation. We recommend travelling by reserving a spot on our van - the preserve can be hard to find and parking is extremely limited at the end of Heather Lane. Space is limited.

We were honored to participate in Darien's Memorial Day parade! The rain stopped just in time for the parade to kick off, and the crowds were wonderful. What a great way to honor those who died protecting our freedom.

SENIOR DAY AT DARIEN SWAP SHOP
Tuesday, May 19th, Darien Swap Shop. To reserve your spot or learn more, call At Home In Darien at (203) 655-2227 or email [email protected].
On May 19th and continuing on the third Tuesday of every month, special times will be set aside for seniors to enjoy shopping at the Swap Shop. Seniors can reserve one of the following 30-minute time slots: 10:00am to 10:30am; 10:40am to 11:10am; 11:20am to 11:50am.
Please note:
Parking is limited to 12 vehicles per time slot.
All participants must have a current dump sticker to enter the transfer station.
Seniors must sign up with At Home In Darien to schedule their visit.
In case of inclement weather, the Swap Shop will be closed. The rain date will be the following Tuesday.

Congratulations to our volunteer Elizabeth McNiff who was recognized as an Outstanding Adult Volunteer by the Community Fund of Darien!
Elizabeth reached out to volunteer with us in 2024, as she wanted to help seniors feel connected to the community. Elizabeth was paired with a Darien senior who she has been visiting weekly. The daughter of the woman Elizabeth visits explained, “We are so lucky to have Elizabeth come visit my mom every week for almost 2 years. She is a constant in my mom’s life and she always comes with a big smile and her happy demeanor! My mom’s world is very small at 92 and people like Elizabeth really make a difference - more than they know I think!! My mom and I consider Elizabeth’s visit a very special part of the week and now she’s our friend!! We all celebrated my mom’s 92nd together too!!” We are so thankful to Elizabeth for being such a conscientious and trustworthy volunteer!
