This International Angelman Day (IAD), let’s empower individuals with Angelman syndrome (AS) to be part of the conversation. Angelman Academy has partnered with Tracey Campbell of ACT Consulting to create a one-page topic board, known as an aided language display, about AS. This can be downloaded and used with individuals of any age and ability. Consider printing it out on card stock or laminating the page for more durability. Language relevant to AS is organized to allow you to build sentences across the display. You can model for the AAC user by pointing to key words in a sentence as you speak and show them all the things they could say about IAD. Honor and encourage all forms of communication. Don’t worry if the learner appears uninterested or doesn’t seem to be paying attention because learning language takes time. Most importantly, don’t forget to presume potential!

Angelman Academy is so excited to be attending the Angelman Syndrome Foundation family conference this summer in Sandusky, Ohio! The conference is taking place at Kalahari resort, a massive 173,000 square foot indoor and outdoor water park. We have partnered with our friends at the Angelman Syndrome Foundation, and Angelman educational expert Kate Ahern, to bring you a very special conference resource. A water park can be an exciting and highly motivating opportunity for communication. We have created a special water park AAC topic board to help provide access to communication. Here is an advance digital copy that you can use to begin the conversation about this exciting event. Waterproof hard copies will be made available at the conference. We hope you enjoy this resource and we can’t wait to see everyone at the conference!
