We like to keep things a little quieter on social media during the summer to give everyone (and us) a break, but some things are simply too exciting not to share!
For the fifth year in a row, the NSCC Funeral Service Program has had the privilege of awarding an ICCFA University Scholarship on behalf of the ICCFA Educational Foundation to one outstanding student. This year, we are proud to recognize second-year student Richard "Scott" Conte as our scholarship recipient.
Earlier this month, Scott traveled to Atlanta, where he attended and graduated from the Todd Van Beck College of Funeral Home Management alongside funeral service professionals from across the country.
Reflecting on the experience, Scott shared:
"I can’t even begin to express what an incredible and life-changing experience this was."
Scott, we could not be more proud and we were very fortunate to have you represent NSCC at ICCFA! We can't wait to hear more about your experience and see all that you accomplish in the future.

What is better than one dog? 🐕 Two, of course! 🐕 Therapy dogs, Abbie from Murphy Funeral Home in Salem, MA and Winnie from Barile Family Funeral Home in Stoneham, MA visited us on campus today to help us de-stress before finals next week. They both deserve a raise! Also thank you to students, Sam Caswell and F.J. Murphy for arranging to share your furry work friends with us all.

A little motivation to our soon-to-be graduates who are currently burning the midnight oil. This will be you sooner than you think!
Today, one of our 2025 graduates, Shannon Murphy (pictured with her mentor, Joel Solimine and also with members of the Board), was officially sworn in as a Massachusetts Licensed Funeral Director. We love watching all of our grads achieve these monumental milestones. Congratulations Shannon!
Do you know a soon to be mortuary school graduate that is attending one of the four New England mortuary programs? Are they an exceptional future funeral professional that deserves recognition?
If so, please consider nominating them for The 2026 Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association Presidents' Award. This prestigious award is given to one graduate from each institution. Nominations can be submitted from managers, coworkers, classmates and self nominations are accepted.
For more information or to locate the nomination form, please see this week's MFDA Inside Edition OR email the program at [email protected] and we will be happy to send you a copy of the form.
