Meet our Artist of the Month – Aaron Johnson

Born and raised in the vibrant coastal community of Laguna Beach, California, Aaron Johnson developed a deep appreciation for art and creativity from an early age. Growing up just steps from the ocean, he found endless inspiration in the natural beauty, energy, and culture of the Southern California coast.

Aaron studied painting and ceramics while attending Laguna Beach High School, where he was honored with the school’s Fine Arts Award. This achievement earned him a scholarship to the Art Institute of Southern California and helped launch his formal artistic education. He later attended the California College of Arts and Crafts, where he majored in ceramics and further refined his artistic vision.

Working across a variety of mediums, including ceramics, painting, and mosaic art, Aaron creates pieces that reflect both the power of the ocean and a sense of spirituality and connection. His lifelong passion for surfing and skimboarding has greatly influenced his work, inspiring compositions that capture the movement, beauty, and rhythm of coastal life.

Today, Aaron continues to create distinctive mosaics, ceramic works, and paintings that blend natural elements, found objects, and spiritual themes. Through his art, he seeks to transform everyday materials into meaningful works that celebrate the ocean, creativity, and the unique coastal environment that has shaped his life and artistic journey.

PS Feb Artist! Meet Joe! Joe Stauffer is a San Clemente local who grew up in the water and has been competing his whole life. Surfing has always been at the center of what he does, and when he’s not in the lineup, he’s painting. His work is inspired directly by the ocean and captures the movement and feeling of being out there.

He’s also a husband and father of two, balancing family life with early mornings in the water and time in the studio. Surfing is part of who he is, and it shows in everything he creates. Joe will be having an art show here on the 28th at 6pm. Come on by and meet the artist!
