On June 12, 1962, guards at Alcatraz discovered something impossible.
Three prisoners were gone.
Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin had vanished from one of the most secure prisons in America.
In their beds, guards found dummy heads made with plaster, paint, and real human hair. The trick had fooled the night checks long enough for the men to escape.
Their plan was bold. They had carved through the prison walls, reached a utility corridor, climbed out, and attempted to cross the freezing waters of San Francisco Bay.
Officials believed they likely drowned.
But no bodies were ever found.
Over the years, rumors, alleged sightings, and possible clues kept the mystery alive. Some believe they died in the water. Others believe they reached land and started new lives under new names.
Alcatraz was supposed to be escape-proof.
But these three men proved one thing: even the strongest prison can leave behind one unanswered question.
Did they drown… or did they survive?

In 1982, a 12-year-old girl named Mary Kellerman became the first known victim in a case that would terrify America.
She had taken ordinary pain medicine — Extra-Strength Tylenol.
Soon, more people in the Chicago area were gone. Different homes. Different families. But investigators found one chilling connection: every victim had taken Tylenol capsules that had been secretly poisoned.
Panic spread across the country. Pharmacies pulled bottles from shelves. Families checked their medicine cabinets. The FBI joined the investigation, but the person responsible was never officially convicted.
The case changed America forever. After the Tylenol Murders, medicine bottles were redesigned with tamper-resistant seals — the same kind of safety packaging we still see today.
But more than 40 years later, the biggest question remains…
Was it one person… or did the real killer disappear in plain sight?
