NeoCon, one of the most well-known commercial interiors conference, wrapped up last week. HKS had a strong showing throughout the event with several team members selected to speak. A popular topic from our designers was how office design is changing.

June is a celebratory month for the HKS LGBTQIA+ community, allies and beyond. Although there is still work to be done, we are focusing on all that has been accomplished by our team and within the AEC industry. The Chengdu Phoenix Hill Sports Park was designed as a community anchor for the emerging Jinniu District. Created for the highest-grade professional competitions and exciting fan experiences, the center also offers visitors a chance to enjoy the local culture and enhances the quality of life for area residents. Last week, HKS was proud to sponsor and participate in the U.S. News and World Report "State of Equity in America" event. Renae Mantooth, a Research Lead in our Education practice, spoke on a panel titled "How Colleges are Prioritizing Mental Health and Neurodiversity on Campus," which focused on the importance of meeting all students' needs through the design of the built environment. Mental Health on College Campuses: Challenges and Solutions About 70% of students have struggled with mental health since starting college, according to data from a U.S. News survey.

HKS has won a 2024 AIA Architecture Award for the design of SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park! The project includes three primary elements under one signature roof — the NFL's premiere venue, Sofi Stadium; a 6,000-seat live entertainment performance venue, YouTube Theater; and American Airlines Plaza, which connects the stadium and theater. The design honors the local climate, culture and community to give fans and visitors the ultimate Southern California experience.

Join HKS at AIA 2024 in Washington, D.C. The 2024 AIA Conference on Architecture and Design (AIA 2024) will be held June 5-8, 2024 in Washington, DC, marking the first time in more than a decade the industry’s biggest event takes place in the U.S. capital.

HKS is excited to announce a stunning new project in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia — the Corinthia residences and luxury hotel. Both properties are designed to reflect traditional Najdi structures and style, each having their own special identity. The hotel features inviting spaces reminiscent of Najdi Palatial forms, while the residences are inspired by the more mysterious, protective look and feel of Najdi Castles to provide residents with a relaxing retreat.

Health and housing are inextricably linked to one another. Over the past year, HKS has leveraged research to evaluate how this link defines communities and how we can work towards mitigating challenges of prevalent disease and homelessness. What an honor! The Texas Society of Architects recently granted HKS a 2024 TxA Design Award for SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. The annual award program promotes public interest in design excellence and recognizes outstanding projects by architects practicing in Texas.

SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park — a 298-acre sports and entertainment destination in Inglewood, California — was designed by teams in several HKS locations, including the firm’s Dallas office. It includes the NFL's largest stadium, YouTube Theater, American Airlines Plaza, and public parks with landscaped trails and a lake.

Stress and burnout are affecting nurses at alarming rates, leading to a shortage of these vital caregivers in health systems worldwide. That’s why HKS created a research coalition alongside CADRE and MillerKnoll to study causes of nurse burnout and how physical space impacts stress levels.

Conducted through an innovative approach, the research identifies gaps in prior research about how the built environment impacts well-being and illuminates authentic experiences that challenge dominant narratives about nurse burnout.
