Then Jesus and His disciples walked to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. On the way, he posed this question to His disciples, “Who did the people say that I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptizer, others say Elijah the prophet, and still others say you must be one of the prophets.” He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter spoke up saying, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!” Mark 8:27-29

The most pivotal question you will answer in your lifetime. Who do you say Jesus Christ is to you? The question is pivotal because your eternity is decided by your answer.

Romans 5:17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

I wonder sometimes how life can become so busy? Is it life, or is it that somehow I desire to fill up my waking hours, and infringe on my sleeping hours, with activity. Is it simply an inner, or subconscious desire or need to feel significant? In a world of instant and ongoing communication and incessant news cycles looping every six hours with "stay tuned" alarmism, there is no escape. Or is there? I am reminded of Christ's conversation with Martha, and her complaint that she was feeling a little overwhelmed with 'responsibility' or what we might term responsible actions taken of our own initiative. Martha felt her sister should be a little more responsible and help out. In modern day vernacular, I might guess Martha was feeling a little frazzled and resented Mary for not taking some ownership. That doesn't seem unreasonable. After all someone has to prepare dinner, snacks, coffee, or the best prayer meeting will go flat, right? However, Jesus didn't see it that way. He said to Martha, "but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the best part; it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:42
This is not a knock on good hospitality, or entertaining guests. Our Lord is pointing to priorities, or what we might call The Main Thing.
Sometimes we get so busy with good things, we forget The Main Thing. We begin to treat God as just another guest we have to perform certain duties for while entertaining Him. In reality, all He wants is our undivided attention and fellowship. He wishes to commune with us. He is a Great Listener, but He wishes for us to listen well. At one point Jesus told the disciples, ""I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now." John 16:12 In other words, if you will allow me a little poetic license, "There is a lot I would like to tell you fellas, but you can't handle it now. You are too distracted with what you think you can do for Me." Speaking for myself, I think He is calling me to "Be still and know that I AM God." Psalm 46:10

I enjoyed preaching the gospel in the Sunday morning service in Lima, Peru. The gospel carries the power of heaven, and the response was great. My translator was excellent.

I'm amazed and appreciative at the power of God's word. When it is communicated in simple faith it goes forth and accomplishes the will of God penetrating into the deepest recesses of those hearers, who in simple faith receive His word. The gospel transports Heaven into our dimension releasing its power and the fragrance of Christ. "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged-sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
