We are so pleased to have been alongside the important work of the Grief and Loss Center of North Texas at their Mother’s Day Tea and Butterfly Release yesterday. Special thanks to the origami artists that folded butterflies for this event: Diana Bueno, Lewis Chang, Candice Lindsay, and Travis Nolan; Ben Griffith for his work on the tree; and One Wing Foundation for their sponsorship of the event.

For all the artists and city officials working through code compliance and occupancy classification for art spaces and events: We are sure we can work this out with thoughtful listening and acknowledging the issues, concerns, and needs of all stakeholders. We at MILL RIVER ARTS are looking forward to working with the Fire Marshals' office and city officials to assure our patrons are kept safe while artists get to fully express and create.

Growing Pains: Dallas, Texas 08/13/2016

This article speaks to why we do what we do—operationally support experimental and emerging artists in Dallas.

Growing Pains: Dallas, Texas Shelby-Allison Hibbs collects thoughts from Dallas theatremakers about the sustainability of the city’s theatre scene.

Regardless of what initiated the recent vigilance for code compliance in Dallas, frustration and anger is misplaced when directed at the Fire Marshall. They are responsible to enforce codes to assure public safety and zoning compliance to reduce loss of life and property due to fire.

It seems there are issues with temporary use of spaces like loading docks, storefronts, and vacant structures that are falling through the cracks. With thoughtful feedback, the responsible department heads should be able to direct us to the proper procedure. Or...develop a new one so that artists can breathe life into such spaces.

Reimagine Crowdus – Big Changes Coming To Deep Ellum 07/22/2016

Big changes are coming to Deep Ellum! Have you heard about Reimagine Crowdus? This September the Deep Ellum Foundation is transforming Crowdus Street into a pedestrian centric place with concerts, performances, and activities. And—MILL RIVER ARTS is proposing an art installation to activate an empty storefront window.

Reimagine Crowdus – Big Changes Coming To Deep Ellum The long-term vision is to turn this experiment into a reality. That means a gathering space in Deep Ellum, more opportunities for events outside, and increased walkability. Ultimately, it’s more fun for our visitors and residents, not to mention more traffic for our businesses!
