Big Thought
We empower and equip youth to create their best lives and a better world. Big Thought empowers and equips youth to Create Great.
We work with youth to channel their voice and creativity into shaping their best lives and a better world. Throughout our 30+ year history of innovation, Big Thought has become a national model in arts education, out of school time systems, summer learning and juvenile justice intervention. Now we’re one of six community partnerships in the U.S. helping scale national best practices in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

What happens when young people have access to creativity, technology, and opportunity?
The answer is on display in a recent Newsweek feature highlighting Tracy "The D.O.C" Curry's
DOC Cares Dream Experience Academy and its work helping youth explore music, gaming, AI, and the creator economy while building real-world skills for the future.
Big Thought is proud to support this work through Creative Solutions, creating pathways where curiosity becomes confidence and interests become opportunities.
As "The D.O.C." says, "Access is everything."

Summer opportunities create new possibilities. ☀️✨
When young people are given access to new experiences, they gain the confidence, skills, and connections that help shape their future.
At Big Thought, we believe impact starts with exposure—and summer is full of opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
Creativity is more than self-expression—it’s a pathway to confidence, healing, leadership, and opportunity. 🎨✨
This summer, Big Thought’s Creative Solutions program is creating space for young people to explore their creativity, develop real-world skills, and build brighter futures through hands-on artistic experiences.
When youth are given the freedom to create, their impact reaches far beyond the classroom.

Impact starts with connection. ✨
At Big Thought’s Thriving Minds Afterschool Program, Family Engagement Day was a reminder that when families, caregivers, and communities are involved, young people feel more supported, confident, and empowered to use their voices.
From creativity and collaboration to shared experiences and joy, these moments help build the trust and belonging youth need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
When families engage, youth voice grows stronger. 💛

Mental health is more than a conversation. It’s a commitment.
At Big Thought, we believe youth voice is essential to well-being. When young people feel heard, valued, and connected, they can speak, create, lead, and thrive.
This Mental Health Awareness Month and every day, we’re committed to building spaces that support young people and strengthen our communities.

We're honored to announce two meaningful recognitions from D CEO Magazine. Big Thought has been named a finalist for Organization of the Year: Large, and our President & CEO, Erin Offord, a finalist for Leadership Excellence: Large — both in the 2026 D CEO Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards.
None of this happens without the young people at the heart of our mission, or the staff, partners, and supporters who champion them every single day. Thank you.

Students from St. Philip's School & Community Center presented their game design demos, showcasing the storytelling, innovation, and technical skills they’ve built through hands-on learning.
Digital fluency is about more than technology—it’s about empowering young people to communicate ideas, solve problems, and shape the future creatively and confidently.

Between May 4 and June 4, we recognize National Returning Youth Month—a time to uplift young people transitioning back into community after incarceration.
At Big Thought, we believe every young person deserves to be met with dignity, not stigma. Returning youth are more than their past—they are creators, leaders, and voices with the power to shape what’s next.
Community plays a critical role in that journey. When we create spaces of belonging, invest in opportunity, and choose support over judgment, we open the door for real transformation.
