Where people and pets learn to live in harmony

Today Dash and I volunteered at the Broders Golf Classic — a fundraiser for Parkland Hospital, where we also do volunteer work. ⛳️💙
Unlike last year, the torrential rain only hit my house while Dash and I were making a mad dash to the car. The golfers barely got a sprinkle! 😂
And because this is Texas, it was 90 degrees yesterday and 60 degrees today. 😝
One of the highlights of the day was getting to meet Dr. Broder himself — such a lovely man! He was especially excited that Dash wore his bow tie in his honor. Apparently Dr. Broder is famous for wearing a bow tie every single day, and all the participants had a bow tie worked into their outfits somewhere. Dash understood the assignment perfectly. 🎀🐾

Dash had fun at Barn Hunt on Saturday. He really liked the “under the sea” themed backdrop! Thank you for a great trial.
I do believe this. I have worked with dogs that I felt had some of these same human behavior makeup.

An active baby on the move means parents have a lot to juggle when sharing space with family dogs. This is one of the busiest stages of parenting!
❗️One of the most important rules: never allow your baby to approach the family dog. We always say: “Dog and baby on the scene, a parent in between.” This simple step prevents startling or uncomfortable interactions.
🐾 As babies crawl closer, dogs often show subtle stress signals—lip licking, yawning, scratching, turning away. Sometimes they’ll get up and leave, but other times they may stay put.
❗️That’s why your role is to notice these signals and prevent the approach. In our experience, it’s usually when the baby goes toward the dog that growls or snaps occur.
✅ Tools like crates, gates, play yards, or even positioning your own body as a barrier (what we call success stations) make a big difference in keeping everyone safe.

So fascinating!

If you need assistance in training your dog and child on how to manage together, I am a licensed Family Paws Parent Educator. I’d love to help you and your family learn how to live in harmony -terrell
As dog trainers who specialize in dog, baby and toddler safety, this is something that we wish more parents knew…
You’d baby and toddler do not have the cognitive ability yet to understand what “be gentle” means!
We see many viral videos of parents or get calls from parents becoming frustrated at their child for hitting or grabbing the dog’s fun after they tell them to “be gentle” or not following simple instructions like “pet the dog nicely”
But why is this?
Your child’s pre-frontal cortex is not developed yet!
Everything that it is responsible for, such as emotional regulation and the executive functioning umbrella (for things such as self control and inhibition) doesn’t exist yet.
The ability to follow instructions reliably isn’t even developed until they are 3.5 to 4 years old.
This is why we always say “dog and baby on the scene, a parent in between” as well share the 4 Pillars of Dog Aware!
It is our responsibility as parents to help advocate for our dogs as well as our children by implementing developmentally appropriate ways for them to safely engage with eachother!
Follow our page for a video tomorrow being shared about how we can help safely engage in developmentally appropriate activities to help teach our children about being Dog Aware!
Yes!! This!! Shock implerments need to be completely taken off of the market. We do not need to hurt our animals to train them.
What a run!!! I wonder how long the handler had to train for running that fast!
