Dallas Doing Good
Dallas Doing Good is a digital media platform focused on creating and sharing stories that support good news and good work in North Texas.
Everywhere we turn we see someone who is dedicating time, resources, and energy to making our city and our world a better place. Dallas Doing Good was started with a hope that sharing these stories we would inspire more people to do the same. After more than four years of reporting, we are happy to see that our intuition was correct and that positive community stories do, in fact, lead to more rob

Feel Good Friday: Every single morning, Mr. Earnest showed up for the kids at Lakewood Elementary - PTA Administrated, rain or shine, catching Ubers just to make it happen. Lakewood family and community members who are a part of Dallas ISD surprised him with something he never saw coming: a brand new car!! 🚗 They weren't about to let his hard work go unnoticed. This is what showing up looks like! 👏
You may have spotted Ruthie’s food trucks around Dallas over the years, but did you know they now have a cafe in South Dallas?
Ruthie’s Cafe was founded by Ashlee Kleinert on a belief that everyone deserves a fair shot. As a second-chance employer, Ashlee has created a space where people who’ve been overlooked get to prove what they’re made of, one shift, one plate, one connection at a time!
Behind the counter are people who were given a chance when it mattered most. ❤️ That’s doing good in South Dallas.
Come visit, spread the word, or follow to support their mission.

May is Mental Health Month. The numbers in our state paint a clear picture: mental health care is not reaching the people who need it most. Texas ranks near the bottom nationally, and right here in Dallas County, barriers like cost, stigma, and provider shortages leave too many neighbors without support.
NAMI North Texas is walking alongside every person on that journey, providing free education programs, peer-led support groups, and community outreach across Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Rockwall Counties. Because no one should face a mental health challenge alone.

The best cities are built by neighbors who believe in each other!
In Dallas, that spirit shows up at every neighborhood farmers market, every locally owned restaurant, and every founder who dared to start something new. Small businesses don't just create jobs, they create community.
Good Local Markets makes that spirit tangible, operating growers-only farmers markets across Dallas, incubating small food businesses, and doubling SNAP dollars so that fresh, local food is accessible to all.

Feel Good Friday: The Dallas Zoo herd just got a little taller and a lot cuter! Say hello to the zoo's newest giraffe calf, a sweet baby girl born March 23 to mom Chrystal and dad Tebogo. She tipped the scales at around 132 pounds and stood about 5 feet 9 inches tall at birth, already taller than most of us! And talk about a family resemblance: she's a true mini-me of mom Chrystal, a carbon copy right down to the matching chest markings.
If you're heading to the zoo soon, keep your eyes peeled! Guests may already be able to spot her out on habitat as she settles in with the herd, especially during the early morning hours when the weather and her comfort levels are just right.
Welcome to Dallas, little one. We already love you. 🦒❤️
April is National Volunteer Month, and our team got their hands dirty for a great cause! 🌿 We had the honor of volunteering at Liberty Street Garden, an initiative rooted in restoration and community. This innovative partnership between The Meadows Foundation, New Friends New Life, and Bonton Farms provides survivors of human trafficking a pathway to earn a living wage as they rebuild their lives.
Liberty Street Garden is located in Dallas’ Wilson Historic District. It features specialty produce sold at farmers’ markets, local restaurants, and throughout the community. Every seed planted is a step toward healing and economic independence.
Want to be part of something meaningful? Anyone can volunteer at Liberty Street Garden! Head to New Friends New Life’s website to sign up.
What a day at Klyde Warren Park! 💙 The Dallas Police Department command staff and academy recruits laced up alongside hundreds of runners for the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Texas. Together, they raised over $68,000 to support Texas athletes with intellectual disabilities! 🔥🏃♀️🏅
Huge thank-you to every officer, recruit, and neighbor who showed up to champion this cause. You make Dallas a better place to call home.

April is Second Chance Month, a reminder that everyone deserves the opportunity to build a new life.
For those returning from incarceration, a stable job is the essential first step, yet they often face an unemployment rate of 27%, higher than the peak of the Great Depression. Unlocking Doors is changing this narrative through their unique "Reentry Brokerage" model. By coordinating employment, housing, and community support into one seamless plan, they help neighbors navigate the complex path back to society. Your support helps unlock the potential of these individuals, proving that when we invest in second chances, our entire community becomes safer and more vibrant.

Feel Good Friday: Meet Taryn, Justice, and Alexis, three freshmen at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School of Innovation from Dallas ISD who are making history as members of the school's first-ever powerlifting team.
In a sport often seen as male-dominated, these girls are stepping up to the bar, competing at regionals, and inspiring the next generation of young women to discover their strength. 💪
