Lindsay Roche is originally from Annapolis but was raised in a suburb north of Dallas, which she urgently fled in her late teens to model across the globe. She studied film at The American University of Paris and earned her MFA at the University of Texas at Arlington. Her early work, particularly photography, was heavily informed by her defiance against the male gaze and unrealistic beauty standards. Her filmic work explores relationships, especially the relationship between humans and the natural environment. Lindsay’s approach is often playful and surreal, adding layers of whimsy to her reflections on everyday life. Her aim is to find expression sitting at the threshold of the vaunted anthropological tower, exploring what it means to fall in love, to grieve, and to let go, folding these human experiences into a narrative of nature and its crafty coincidences. For Lindsay, film is a collection of impersonal, otherworldly sea-shells, personally gathered by hand. Experience Burning Woman.
