Recently, our CEO, Justine Sterling Converse, and CCO, April Zorsky, had the pleasure to do something they don’t get to do often - ATTEND an event. They spent four days in historic Middleburg, Virginia, on an immersive familiarization trip of a brand-new private estate.

Our first site visit of 2024 is officially in the books! Excited to return to this spring for an exclusive ocean-front event filled with golf experiences, networking, and special guests galore.

We plan events, but at the heart of our business is relationships.

As we celebrate 5 years of Brigade, we would be remiss if we didn’t emphasize the significance of our vendors and clients turned friends. The fourth lesson we’ve learned as is the importance of relationships in our industry. Because of our treasured relationships, we’ve proven that we’re trustworthy and can uphold all the elements a successful corporate event requires. We pull off miracles for our clients because of our relationship with vendors - they are truly a part of the Brigade in every way. And of course, we have to recognize the importance of cultivating relationships with our internal Brigade team. We work everyday to provide - and expect - respect, support, and grace for each other at Brigade. It is important that we are each other’s committed-to-excellence colleagues in our workplace, and biggest cheerleaders in all other aspects of life.

Mastering our craft.

When Brigade began, like any start-up, we didn’t know if it would be successful. Our third lesson as reveals how, through all the obstacles in our path during our first few years, we discovered our niche. The Covid-19 pandemic revealed a real need for corporate event strategy, as many companies had to lay off their internal event teams. In 2022, when events came back in a big way post-Covid, our unique background planning high-pressure events involving security details, high-profile guests, and world leaders gave clients comfort as they sought a partner with our knowledge and expertise.

The art of the pivot.

The second lesson of our journey emphasizes how we’ve learned that adaptability is one of the most valuable professional characteristics. The Covid-19 pandemic greatly impacted many industries - including event management. Brigade was barely 1 year into business when the pandemic hit. Through creative efforts and agility of mind, we gracefully shifted our clients toward online events, drive-by celebrations, exclusive gifting suites, and more. We were able to emerge without layoffs or reducing salaries. Adapting to the art of the pivot helps us make smart, insightful decisions for our clients.

It takes a village.

The first lesson of our five colorful years of business celebrates the support system we lean on everyday. Our supportive spouses and families, loyal clients, and vendors turned friends. And for those of us who are moms, our loving parents, nurturing caregivers, rockstar daycares, and brilliant school teachers. We would never be where we are today as without the support of our Brigade around us.
