I’d like to make people aware of a system called REDLINING. Systematic oppression is real contrary to many beliefs and what redlining ultimately does is it makes it harder for minorities and poor people to claim ownership of property in the US. ‘Til This Day’ “Latinos, Blacks, and Asians are found to be turned away from loans at higher rates than whites”(revealnews.org).

According to the Digital Scholarship Lab at the University of Richmond, “scholars have characterized HOLC's property assessment and risk management practices... as some of the most important factors in preserving racial segregation, intergenerational poverty, and the continued wealth gap between white Americans and most other groups in the U.S.”

When opportunity is not equal, the unfairly treated must do what they can to survive which in many cases results in taking what you can get which is often a very undesirable option.

“As a result of redlining, many minority renters had to rent housing from landlords who engaged in price gouging, knowing that these renters had no other options.”

And because of practices like these, the systematic oppression leads way to other deplorable tactics such as: Gentrification...
