Healing is not something you simply “get over.”

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we are sharing an open letter to survivors about the reality of trauma, the moments that can resurface over time, and the importance of meeting yourself with patience instead of pressure.

If something from your past is showing up again, it does not mean you are back at the beginning. It means you are still healing.

Healing takes time.
So we stay.

At the heart of Dallas Area R**e Crisis Center is a commitment to showing up—every time. In 2025, DARCC answered 2,568 hotline calls and supported 386 survivors during hospital exams, often in the middle of the night.

This work is possible because advocates are trained, ready, and present long before the call comes in.

Talking to kids about body safety doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

DARCC’s Keeping Kids Safe Reading Program helps caregivers use story time to start important conversations about consent, boundaries, and speaking up. Each book includes simple tools and guided questions to make these topics feel natural and empowering.
