We think there has been a serious lack of bravery in the creative agency and design world about our perceived backseat position within the entrepreneurial business landscape of American innovation. But deep down, we always believed that artists and designers could be the bravest and most authentic of entrepreneurs. Our Story

A backseat, order taking mindset is common in our industry, and comes from continually being told “commercial creative work isn’t real art. It’s not special, it’s just servicing your clients dreams. Not yours.” We get it. For a long time, we listened and behaved like good soldiers. To be honest, we mostly only succeeded in being good decorators of brands, not actually doing work to make brands. So around 2008 we started to change our mindset about why we do what we do. We stopped waving our hands at already famous brands and instead started seeking opportunities to dream up and construct brand new ventures with stoked people to see if we could contribute to making famous brands of the future.

Like you, we stopped asking for permission to create, and started to design and manufacture goods (link to Warstic Case) of our own. We learned to lead not follow. We learned to ship. We learned to work without roadmaps to build tribes for our ideas. Along the way we even worked to help revitalize some client’s old brands opening up new paths of survival.

That’s just what buffalo do. Adapt and survive.

The last 10 years has truly been an investment in practicing what our clients practice, an experience of walking in their shoes, and a commitment to the long relentless haul of brand building with them. It’s been invaluable in developing our unique expertise. What we learned along the way is that what a branding company CAN contribute to building brands, if done with a heart towards making art, is to bring more human vision to a business idea. We can craft the potentially explosive DNA of a seed that could become an impactful, artful movement someday. In this way, we think of what we do as Art. Manufacturing new movements that didn’t exist before that change people’s minds and causes them to engage and participate. We understand that seeds have to be farmed over long periods of time to grow into real brands. Frankly, farming is much harder work than hunting. The daily grind of operations, sales, and marketing. But hunting still matters because some seeds are more powerful than others.
