Book Restoration Project When performing book repair, it is not uncommon to have to replace the end sheets or reinsert pages that may have fallen out. Some patterns are so popular that decades later you can still find the same paper for an end sheet.

Today is a day to recognize the valuable contributions made by all school library workers. Thank you for all you do!

The Life of a Parker Library Book

Books exist to be used and learned from. Some books are loved a little too much and require some repair. Librarians will do the best with the material they have on hand, but that is not always what is best for the longevity of the book. As we worked to re-establish the library for Parker University, I came across a book that was being held together with packaging tape inside and out.

Not only is this bad for the book, but it is highly unattractive. After a thorough inspection, it was determined that a full binding restoration would need to be done. The book was disassembled, removing the text block from the covering.

Pieces were salvaged to be added back on later. New boards were cut and covered in book cloth. The saved pieces were attached, and the text block was encased into the covering to become a book once again in usable condition.

If you ever need to fix a book at home, please use acid-free tape and remember, books are not coasters

Parker University, we are excited to announce the arrival of the new Director of Library Services, Ms. Tina Berumen. Ms. Berumen earned an undergraduate degree in Education from UT Arlington and a Master of Library Science from TWU. Her most recent position was the Coordinator of Library Services for Coppell ISD. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Berumen to Parker!

Parker University will be closed December 24th-January 2nd for the Winter Break. The Library will resume normal hours on January 3rd.

In addition, Classroom B of the North Building, and its enclosed study spaces, will temporarily be unavailable for student use while the library staff perform inventory.

NOTICE: The South building will close to students at 1 PM on December 3rd, this includes the library. Normal hours will resume on Saturday, December 4th. Thank you for your understanding.

Dr. Robert Rosenbaum (Vice Chairman of Parker University’s Board of Trustees) and his father, George Rosenbaum, are being honored as ‘Hometown Heroes’ in Lincolnton, NC. Thank you for your service!

Parker University property makes its way back to campus after being stolen 23 years ago.

This chiropractic clock once hung in the men’s locker room at the university gym until it disappeared.

Dun Dun Dun…

Over two decades later the clock returns with a note attached to it, the person begging for forgiveness:

“I APOLOGIZE! I’ve learned so much during this time and have always felt poorly for my mistake...”

The clock is currently displayed on a bookshelf in the new university library, located on the second floor of the South Building.

Feel free to stop by to look at the chiropractic clock and admire the new library space! You can even talk to a librarian (we promise we don't bite)!
