Here's a yearly reminder - baby squirrels running after you and even clinging to your leg are not rabid! They’re doing this out of sheer desperation because they’ve lost their mother and have been lacking care for days. Young squirrels are an exception in the animal kingdom - when they have lost contact with their mother and suffer hunger and thirst, they gather all their courage and purposefully seek help from humans. Many of these animals are also injured by a fall from a tree (usually injuring their nose, mouth,or head, or even breaking a leg). Please help them out!! If they are still really young you should find a rehabber because they may need to be bottle fed. If it's a little older young squirrel you can offer them some food and water. They can usually eat blueberries, grapes, nuts out of the shell (they are too young to break open the shell). Pecans or walnuts are good because they're easier for them to chew (remember no shell). If they are too young to eat or drink then please find a rehabber to help them.
