Crowd Control - Dallas

Hi y’all, Will and Brittany here!

As the year winds to a close, we have been discussing the future of Crowd Control and assessing our role in hosting the open mic every month. After 2 ½ years, we’ve decided to put CC on hiatus for now. The decision to do so is the result of many different things converging at once, but mainly the fact that we are each assuming other responsibilities in our personal lives. We feel honored to have been able to participate in the cultural arts community here in Dallas, and cannot thank you all enough for your support, encouragement, and creative inspiration since day one.

The two of us were joking about this the other day, but when we started CC at Mudsmith back in July of 2017, we felt like we didn’t know anyone and Crowd Control has given us the opportunity to meet SO MANY incredibly talented and just all around wonderful people living in Dallas. One of my favorite things about Crowd Control, and I think Will would agree with me on this one, is that the number of people who showed up just to hang out, watch, and support always rivaled the number of performers who came to read or play. The backing of friends and fans plays an equally integral role in sustaining the cultural arts community, and it has always been so encouraging to see that idea realized at a little ole’ open mic. Will and I are both proud of the eclecticism and warm energy that all of you out there brought to open mic every month. We always hoped that it would be that way, but it is by no means something you can construct. Y’all did that. Y’all showed up every month, molded, and shaped this event into something that Will and I felt so thrilled and lucky to be a part of.

We want to thank Mudsmith Coffee and Bar (RIP) for giving us our start and to Sundown at Granada for taking a chance on us and hosting us for the last year and half. The staff at Sundown and at Granada are just the GD best. I know people say that all the time, but they truly are and they deeply care about supporting the local music community in Dallas.

This isn’t goodbye forever, just goodbye for now.

HONIN is a singer-songwriter based in the DFW area. Foundations of Groove-Pop combined with an air of R&B, electronic, and jazz all coalesce to make her individual sound. She’s inspired by the groove of popular music, while softly embedding intricate lyrics and harmonies.

-topic is a hip hop artist from Dallas who has spent the last few years up in Oakland. He'll be in town next week to play a couple shows: one at Three Links - Deep Ellum, TX on Wednesday night and then CC on Thursday night. You do not want to miss seeing him perform while he's in town!

Big thanks to all that came out to the August edition of Crowd Control last night! We had such a great time catching up with everyone. It's been so wonderful to see you guys support one another and work together over the last year.
