Sept 24, 1998 - The NBA announced that the opening of training camps for the 1998-99 season have been postponed indefinitely because of the stalled collective bargaining negotiations with the National Basketball Players Association. Training camps were scheduled to open on October 5.

Before there was a generation of high-flying guards, there was Clyde “The Glide” Drexler.

One of the most complete guards of his era, Drexler was a 10-time NBA All-Star, helped lead Portland to two NBA Finals appearances and later returned home to Houston to capture the 1995 NBA Championship alongside Hakeem Olajuwon.

He finished his Hall of Fame career with more than 22,000 points, 6,000 rebounds and 6,000 assists, a reflection of just how much he could do on the court.

Sept 23, 2023 - Albert Pujols joins Babe Ruth (714), Hank Aaron (755), and Barry Bonds (762) as the only major leaguers to hit 700 home runs when he goes deep off Phil Bickford in the fourth inning of the Cardinals' 11-0 rout of LA. Before the 42-year-old DH hit the milestone round-tripper, he also homered in the previous frame of the Dodger Stadium contest for his 20th of the season and 699th of his career.

A throwback to a classic era of South Side baseball.

The Chicago White Sox batter logo became part of the team’s identity in 1976, featuring a batter above the bold “SOX” wordmark in red, white and navy.

Worn during an unforgettable era of White Sox uniforms, the logo remains a unique piece of the franchise’s visual history and a favorite among fans of classic baseball designs.

Today in MLB History

Sept 22, 1969 - Willie Mays, joining Yankee legend Babe Ruth, becomes the second major leaguer to hit 600 career home runs. The historic two-run homer is delivered as a pinch-hitter in the top of the seventh inning off Padres hurler Mike Corkins and proves to be the difference in the Giants' 4-2 victory at San Diego Stadium.

Today in Basketball History

Sept 21, 1991 - USA Basketball announced the “Dream Team” for the 1992 Olympics. Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, and John Stockton were named. Christian Laettner and Clyde Drexler were named to the team on May 12, 1992.

Sept 20, 2025 - Cal Raleigh becomes the Mariners' single-season home run leader, hitting his 57th home run of the season in the third inning of the team 6-4 victory over the Astros at Daikin Park. With the solo homer, the 28-year-old catcher surpasses Ken Griffey Jr.'s mark of 56 homers, which KGJ accomplished twice, in 1997 and 1998.

Sept 19, 1987 - Ralph Kiner, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1975, has his number 4 retired by the Pirates. The slugging outfielder, the owner of the single-season club record with 54 home runs, won or shared the NL home run title in each of his seven full seasons with Pittsburgh, going deep 301 times overall for the team.

Sept 18, 2010 - CC Sabathia becomes a 20-game winner for the first time, after finishing a victory short of the milestone twice during his distinguished career, when the Yankees beat the Orioles 11-3. The left-hander, who leads both leagues in victories, is the fourth Bronx Bomber since 2000 to reach the plateau, adding his name to a list that includes Roger Clemens (2001), Andy Pettitte (2003), and Mike Mussina (2008).
