Thank you team!

I want to acknowledge and thank my team that ensured my 20yr celebration was a success in many ways. This was a milestone in my career and organizing it was a task I would have not been able to tackle by myself.

Thank you & Rehema for capturing & understanding the theme for the promo/photoshoot material and executing it so well. It was also an honor to work with you again and thank you for the gift you made for me. Appreciate you bro

Thank you of for coming in and helping not only with the media run but also the event production. A lot of the networks you have built were amazing and I’m definitely looking fwd to working with you on more projects

Thank you for being part of the many groups that were tasked in getting resourceful work. Your network is unmatched and so is your energy for the live artist community. We’ve learnt a lot that we can implement elsewhere and looking fwd to the partnerships in the future.

Thank you & for coming in and coordinating the artists and performance side. We’ve been at it for 4-6yrs ladies and I don’t take for granted how you’ve come through for me in many different occasions.

Thank you & for being so accommodating and learning 37 songs. I didn’t realize how much work was going into the performance until you all mentioned the number of songs. Thank you for handling my music with such perfection it all sounded so fresh & new to me. Let’s do this again.

And to , thank you for helping manage the vision from start till finish. You made sure nothing fell behind and we stuck to every single schedule. This was a huge task for anyone and especially one that you hadn’t done before. We’ve got so much ahead of us and now I’m confident enough to say I’ve got one of the best managers in the game. Let’s get it 💪🏾

Ayrosh

Glad to be joined by on June 15th as I celebrate my 20th music anniversary 🎉

It all started with Kibali, a good friend I met while teaching at the Music Culture Foundation in Milimani Primary. He introduced me to a whole new class of musicians that included Ayrosh & Ythera. Seeing what I was doing with Kwame, Kibali really pushed for me to meet and work with Ayrosh.

Ayrosh and I didn’t meet until 2 years after. But we had already put out “Shuga Mami” - a record we worked on while I was in the US. From then on, Ayrosh became a presence in my work and me in his. We have shaped a sound that was carefully constructed to have a striking balance for urban and rural engagement along with Mutoriah. All that culminated in the release of the Murasta EP after having released 2 singles prior.

Ayrosh is the 2nd most popular artist that I’m usually associated with. He has been on majority of my projects and is always down to work. We have crafted records that have a great feel like “Lamu Afternoons” on ‘Soul’d Duets’ album.

It’s always an honor to have Ayrosh as a collaborator but most importantly as a friend. So glad to see his brand grow and do great things which I hope will extend to this other side of the globe where I reside. All the best my guy and cheers 🍻

Mutoriah

Excited to be joined by on June 15th as I celebrate my 20th music anniversary 🎉

The first time I came across Mutoriah’s name was on the credits of “Wendo” by Ayrosh. I also got to hear of his amazing talent while working on a couple of songs with Ayrosh. When I met him for the first time, he was MD and playing at the Murasta EP launch in 2019. I was in awe of his musical sensibilities at such a young age but little did I know what kind of genius I was experiencing.

The next time we met was during Serro’s studio session for “Misimu” as I had requested Mutoriah to produce the song with me. He showed up at the tail end of the session and proceeded to lay down ideas at a very fast pace. I was in awe but everyone around seemed to know what kind of magic he was capable of. I’ve admired his tenacity and always root for him.

It’s such an honor to have him be a part of my Soul’d Duets project and to also share a stage at my 20 year milestone celebration. Cheers Mutoriah🥂

Ythera

Excited to be joined by on June 15th as I celebrate my 20th music anniversary 🎉

Ythera is an amazing friend, singer and incredible human being in general. I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with her for the past 6yrs and it has been nothing short of fulfilling.

Be it her skill in coordinating artists and sessions on my behalf, working with me on original material, or her doing a few backing vocals for songs like “Slow” (Chris Barr), I know I can always count on her.

Together with Meryl Paige and Joy (LaMusicJunkie), Ythera represented me at the Café Ngoma Awards in 2019 making sure that my award got to my folks in Kenya and eventually to me in Dallas.

The success of the ‘Odes by Queens’ project wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for her passion and push to get me the best of her singing friends. Our mutual friend Kibali pitched the idea and Ythera made it happen. And four years since then, she’s been part of every album I’ve put out and rightfully so.

Our studio sessions are always filled with so much laughter plus a whole dose of therapy. I have been branded “Unko”, a name I can’t seem to renounce since it comes with a lot of respect & responsibility.

When I decided to celebrate this 20th anniversary, Ythera was one of the few people I consulted. It was her turn to encourage me and still is as we continue with the planning process.

Watching her career grow in so many directions is something I will always celebrate. The milestones and records set along with her group members in Wanavokali is admirable.

Thank you so much Ythera for being a good friend, great collaborator and most importantly an amazing person. Cheers 🥂

Wanavokali

Happy to be joined by on June 15th as I celebrate my 20th music anniversary 🎉

I met the lady members of Wanavokali individually when I was recording ‘Odes by Queens’. All of this was orchestrated by my trusted A&R Ythera. Also, Sam came in for Ythera’s studio session and asked when I was going to do an album for the fellas. The same year, I sent out a track which ended up on ‘BLK2541’ featuring Riki and Sam.

Two years later, I was back recording ‘Soul’d Duets’ and made sure to include Riki & Sam. This year was when I featured them as a group on my joint album ‘Moshi’ with MJ Wemoto.

It’s been a great experience working with them individually and as a group. Looking fwd to many more. Cheers Wanavokali 🥂
