Putrajaya is the federal administrative capital of Malaysia. It was developed to house most of the country's government ministries and agencies, easing congestion in the capital city, Kuala Lumpur.

Located about 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya is known for:

Beautiful modern architecture and carefully planned gardens.

The striking Putra Mosque, famous for its pink dome.

Perdana Putra, the office of the Prime Minister.

A large man-made lake, scenic bridges, parks, and wide boulevards.

Government ministries, embassies, and administrative offices.

Although many government offices are based in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur remains Malaysia's official national capital and its main commercial and financial centre.

If you're planning a visit to Malaysia, Putrajaya is worth seeing for its impressive architecture, peaceful atmosphere, and attractions, especially in the evening when many of its buildings are beautifully illuminated.

Putrajaya was named after Tunku Abdul Rahman, whose full name was Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

The name "Putrajaya" combines:

Putra – taken from his name, meaning "prince" or "son" in Sanskrit-derived Malay.

Jaya – meaning "success", "victory", or "triumph".

So, Putrajaya can be understood as "Putra's success" or "victorious Putra."

Tunku Abdul Rahman served as Malaysia's first Prime Minister from 1957 to 1970 and is widely honoured as the "Father of Independence" because he led the country to independence from British rule on 31 August 1957. His leadership played a key role in the formation and early development of modern Malaysia.
