Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge — reimagined in the heart of New York's Bangladeshi immigrant community. Gotroheen, presented by DFW Play of Dallas, is a powerful Bengali-language adaptation by Rudraprasad Sengupta, directed by Rajarshi Bhattacharyya.
Set in Jackson Heights, the play follows Salek, a proud Bangladeshi grocer whose world unravels when family loyalty collides with jealousy and obsession — with devastating consequences.
Performed in Bengali with English supertitles.
Gotroheen is part of our Day 1 program on September 12, alongside the world premiere of our own Blue Lotus Burning.

The standing ovation and the warmth from the Atlanta audience meant a great deal to all of us. We are deeply grateful to everyone who came, shared the afternoon with us, and supported the work.

When 22 people in the company travel through an airport throughout the day, it starts to feel like we’ve taken over the place.
But honestly, travel is one of the fun quotients of this journey. It lets the bohemian soul wander, explore, laugh, and create memories along the way.
Today we are just glad we all finally landed.
Tomorrow is another day. Tech & Performance. Another adventure. Another story.

সোজন বাদিয়ার ঘাটের গান: সুর খোঁজার গল্প
জসীমউদ্দীনের সোজন বাদিয়ার ঘাট নিয়ে কাজ করতে গিয়ে খুব তাড়াতাড়িই বুঝেছিলাম - এখানে গান শুধু গানের অংশ নয়। গান এই গল্পের মাটি, নদী, মানুষ আর স্মৃতির সঙ্গে মিশে আছে।
কিন্তু সুর খোঁজা সহজ ছিল না।
জসীমউদ্দীনের বিশাল সৃষ্টির মধ্যে দিয়ে হাঁটতে হাঁটতে আমরা নানা পথ ভেবেছি - মুর্শিদা, জারি গান, সারি গান, গাজীর গান, কীর্তন, ভাটিয়ালি। প্রতিটি ধারার নিজস্ব স্বর, নিজস্ব শরীর, নিজস্ব ইতিহাস। প্রশ্ন ছিল - কোন সুরে এই গল্পের মানুষগুলো সত্যি হয়ে উঠবে? কোন সুরে ভালোবাসা, ভয়, উৎসব, বিভাজন আর নদী - সব ধরা পড়বে?
আর সবচেয়ে কঠিন ছিল সুর দেওয়া।
কারণ জসীমউদ্দীনের ভাষার মধ্যেই সুর আছে। সেই ছন্দকে অক্ষুণ্ণ রেখে নতুন সুর তৈরি করা মানে শুধু সুর বসানো নয়; লেখাটার নিজের শ্বাসটাকে খুঁজে পাওয়া। চাইলে আমরা অন্য পথও নিতে পারতাম। পরিচিত, জনপ্রিয়, বাণিজ্যিকভাবে সফল গান বা সুরের আশ্রয় নিলে কাজটা অনেক সহজ হতো। দর্শকের কাছেও হয়তো তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে বেশি পরিচিত, বেশি গ্রহণযোগ্য লাগত।
আমরা সে পথ নিইনি।
তার বদলে ধীরে ধীরে খুঁজেছি - এই গল্পের জন্য, এই সময়ের জন্য, এই নদীর জন্য কোন সুরের জন্ম হতে পারে। আমাদের সুর করার প্রসেসে আমরা বার বার নাটকের সিন এবং তার রস খুঁজে ফিরেছি। প্রচলিত সুর যা হয়তো আমরা আজন্ম শুনে এসেছি তাকেই আমরা খুঁজেছি। তাই গান গুলো কেবল গান নয়,এক একটা সিন বা চরত্রের সম্পুর্ণ রুপ। আর এভাবেই গান গুলো নাটকের গান হয়ে উঠেছে।
এই খোঁজে Naomi Alam-র কাজ ছিল অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। বারবার চেষ্টা, বাদ দেওয়া, আবার ফিরে আসা - এইভাবেই গানগুলোর নিজস্ব শরীর তৈরি হয়েছে। মুর্শিদা, জারি, সারি, গাজীর গান, কীর্তন, ভাটিয়ালি - কোনোটাকেই শুধু ধার হিসেবে ব্যবহার না করে, তাদের ভেতরের সুর ও চলন থেকে আমাদের পথ খুঁজেছি।
এটি আমাদের করা সবচেয়ে নিজস্ব সঙ্গীত-অনুসন্ধানগুলোর একটি। কিন্তু সেটাকে বড় করে বলার চেয়ে আমাদের কাছে বেশি জরুরি - এই গানগুলোর প্রতি আমরা কতটা যত্নশীল আর সৎ থাকতে পেরেছি।
শেষ বিচারের ভার দর্শকের। আমাদের শুধু এইটুকু আশা - গানগুলো যেন আলাদা করে ‘গান’ বলে মনে না হয়। মনে হয় যেন, এই মানুষগুলোই গাইছে, এই নদীই গাইছে।
