Years ago I taught myself how to transcribe by typing recordings from the Holocaust Survivor, Michael Jacobs for his memoirs.
Now I have an active security clearance and I’m transcribing court hearings.
I love transcribing and seeing the activity in my minds eye.
Technology has been a wonderful tool for transcribers. Year's ago, the only way to transcribe was with a transcribing machine and micro cassette tapes. I still have boxes of those little tapes.
Fast forward into the digital age - now all we need is a little foot peddle, the playback program on the computer and the recordings sent via email. Videos are often too big to come over email, but they can be stored on a thumb drive.

Why should recordings of meetings, interviews, classes and videos be transcribed?
Because the transcribed documents will contain everything that was said by everyone in the room. When we try to listen and take notes without the recording...let’s be honest the shorthand notes may or may not make sense.
As an experienced transcriptionist I welcome the challenge of typing as fast as the parties are speaking.
Over the years I have transcribed the lectures of a Holocaust Survivor, which became his memoirs; forensic interviews, phone conference recordings, police videos and interviews.
