"We talk about harnesses, fall protection, PPE, and physical hazards every day, but what protection do we have for mental health?"

After recognizing our May Safety Crew of the Month and standout teammates, Karyn Almanza, Safety Program and Training Coordinator, shared a message that impacted us all.

In recognition of and Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, Karyn led a conversation on the realities facing the construction industry. Through a live demonstration with 20 workers, crews saw the impact behind the statistics: construction workers make up only about 7% of the U.S. workforce, yet account for nearly 18% of workplace suicides.

Her message challenged us to think about safety beyond the physical hazards we see every day and reminded us of the importance of supporting one another both on and off the jobsite.

Karyn closed with a simple but powerful reminder: "When you ask someone how they're doing, pause. Make eye contact. Give them the opportunity to sincerely respond."

Because at the end of the day, people protect people.
