Pressure washing a fence is generally not recommended as the primary method of preparation for staining, since it can damage the surface, and close up the porse.
In certain cases—such as when there is old, peeling water-based stain—pressure washing can be useful for removing the flakes and providing a cleaner surface for new stain to adhere. When used carefully at the right pressure, it can help, but it should always be followed by proper drying time.
