In Loving Memory of Timothy “Tim” Gerard Henderlong

Timothy (Tim) Gerard Henderlong, 72, of Hebron, IN, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on June 10, 2026. Born in Gary, IN, on March 17, 1954, he was the son of Harold and Mildred (Schmelter) Henderlong. He grew up in Crown Point, IN, and later earned his bachelor’s degree in construction from Bradley University. On May 21, 1977, Tim married the love of his life, Celine (Rempala), at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. From an early age, Tim embraced the values of hard work, kindness, and community—principles that shaped every chapter of his life.

Tim devoted more than 50 years to the building industry as a proud fourth‑generation builder. Carrying on the family legacy, he emphasized craftsmanship, strong customer relationships, and service to his community. His passion for the industry led him to establish Henderlong Construction, later Henderlong Homes, a company that continues to build homes throughout Northwest Indiana. He was a longtime member of the Building Industries Association of Northwest Indiana, serving three terms as president, and he represented the region nationally as a National Director of the National Home Builders Association. He earned his Certified Graduate Builder designation and received the 2001 Presidential Citation Award from the Trustee of the Board of the Housing Protection Fund.

Tim took great pride in building affordable homes for families. He believed that a home was more than a structure—it was the foundation of stability, belonging, and community. Many clients became lifelong friends, a testament to his warmth, sincerity, and ability to make others feel valued.

Tim’s community impact was also deeply rooted in his faith. At St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, he was a quiet but constant presence. He served in many ways, including through St. Vincent de Paul Society, Christ Renews His Parish, and the Knights of Columbus, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 7473; where he found joy in service and fellowship.

While proud of his professional accomplishments, Tim’s greatest joy was his family. He cherished every moment with his beloved wife, Celine, their four children, and their growing families. Whether coaching his children’s basketball teams and Indian Guides, helping with a project, offering thoughtful advice, or cheering on his grandchildren at sporting events and birthday celebrations, he was always present, supportive, and full of pride.

Tim enjoyed fishing with friends and family, traveling and exploring new places with his family, and embracing life’s adventures. He was also an avid Chicago sports fan. He had a special passion for gardening, cultivating a beautiful garden that produced an abundance of fruits and vegetables he loved sharing with others. His witty, dry sense of humor brought smiles and laughter to all who knew him.

Loved by all who knew him, Tim was truly one in a million. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Dennis and Dale. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Celine; their four children, Teresa (Shane Crandall), Juliann (Joseph Boline), Elise, and Peter; seven grandchildren—Riley, Isabella, Dylan, Christopher, Carter, Emily, and Benjamin; and his siblings Joanne (Dean Ricci), Arleen (Jack Jackson), Christy (Stu Sullivan), Gregory (Sandy), and Lynne (Russ Rhea), sister-in-law, Susan (Cook) Henderlong.
