SERVING
For the past eight weeks, we have posted endorsement videos from parents, community members, students, teachers, state leaders, and two adorable grandchildren.
We have posted about support for every student, parental involvement, integrity, transparent communication, the importance of human resources, experience, school safety, and transparent budgets.
When you vote on November 8th, please remember that only one candidate has the depth and breadth of educational experience in this race – Tim Vassar. This is a huge distinguishing feature among the candidates.
Parents, think about this value of experience for your kids. Your children will be under policies developed by the school board. How important is it that those policies were developed by well thought out by a distinguished educator? To have a board member with a strong moral compass and demonstrated integrity is priceless.
To our taxpayers without children in the school system, remember that the school board develops and manages the school corporation budget. Would you put your trust in someone with vast experience in developing and managing huge school budgets over someone who has never done so? Of course, you would.
I am running because I have a level of experience that will serve our schools and community well. I simply want to serve and give back. That’s it. No hidden agenda. No axes to grind. I just want to serve.
I promise that I will only do what is right for our students, staff, and community. I will stand as a man of integrity. I will not let you down.

TRANSPARENT BUDGETS
One of the responsibilities of a school board is to develop and manage the school corporation budget. School budgets are far different than a personal checking account or a home equity line of credit. It is important to have board members who understands how these budgets work under Indiana law and are familiar with the processes.
You may have seen ongoing construction at our schools and a brand new middle school being erected in Winfield. You may wonder how these projects are being funded. You see fuel costs rise and wonder how schools keep their buses running. You may wonder where the extra money you put out for a taxpayer funded referendum is being used. All good questions that deserve answers.
As a School Board member, I want to place the school corporation budget in regular communications with parents and taxpayers. I propose an open and transparent budget that is easy to understand and posted regularly on the corporation website and in school newsletters. For those not using electronic technology (Yes, these folks exist and pay taxes), let’s provide paper copies for their perusal.
