Opening today, Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 11 am until 1 pm, is our newest exhibition, a captivating collection of watercolor portraits that explore the depth, nuance, and emotion of the human experience. This show brings together artists who use the fluidity and transparency of watercolor to capture not just likeness, but personality, mood, and story.

Artists featured in this show include Gary Price, Hakan Togul, Judith Hanacek, Arlene Freeman, Carlene Togul, Bernadette Hanacek, Lynelle Smith, and Judi Boehner.

During the Opening Reception, we will also host an exciting ArtMart featuring Karla Cluck, Linda Curl, Judy Hanacek, and Suzanne Dreher.

The students from the Crete Creative Gallery and School have installed their exhibit, “From Cabinets of Curiosities to Joseph Cornell,” at the Crete Public Library.

During the past 3 months, the students have explored the history of Cabinets of Curiosities and the Artworks of Joseph Cornell. They have each created their own Cornell Boxes, which are now on display in the glass case outside the children’s area at Crete Public Library District on the second floor. In so doing, they are also learning about what it takes to create an art exhibition.

Crete Creative Gallery invites artists to submit their work for an upcoming juried exhibition celebrating the art of watercolor portraiture. This show will explore the expressive range, technical mastery, and storytelling power of watercolor as a portrait medium.

Exhibition Dates:
May 9 – June 20, 2026

Theme:
We are seeking portraits created primarily in watercolor that capture the essence, emotion, and individuality of the subject. Submissions may be traditional or contemporary in style and may feature human subjects in any context—formal, narrative, or experimental.
