Meet Ted.
Ted is a teeney tiny turtle.
He loves tacos, trees, and smiling up at you.
I'll be posting some of his friends and relations shortly.

The Christmas season seems so busy here, but I will always slow down for a solstice fire. Winter solstice is when hope is restored that the light will return again and we will not linger always in these long nights.
The solstice fire is a much beloved tradition here, and one I will always celebrate, even if I only have a candle to burn.
My husband and the boys came out to join me, and I sat while they goofed around and made a very merry evening of being outdoors under the evening clouds and the twinkling stars. The dog was chilly and sat wrapped in a blanket but still seemed grateful to be out with his people.
Our oldest decided on a bit of fire play in spite of the intermittent wind, but just a little goofing around. I have his permission to post a little today so long as I post again later. He wasn't planning on being filmed, he's just so fun to watch, and I appreciate his generous allowance for me to post even a little.
Happy solstice everyone, from Rocks on the Porch and family.

I know I always extol the friendliness of the venues I am blessed to be at, and this one is one of the best. It is absolutely so genuinely charming and everyone is conversational and friendly. I just met Moorie, the stuffed mascot of the Monee Creamery, and I'm immersed in so much history right now.
There are some fantastic and talented vendors here today. Visit downstairs a while and the come upstairs and say hello!

Meet Lucy!
She has so much texture and she represents about 6 1/2 hours of time in painting and design. I have enjoyed creating her and I think I will be a bit sad when she finally finds her home.
It has been a blessed and lovely season here in the Rocks on the Porch family! A short and wonderful vacation was had. Our youngest continues to heal from a rather significant hand injury. We are grateful to God and to his great care team! If you are the praying type, please consider joining us as we lift him up in prayer over the next several months of his recovery.
Just this month our middle son received his black belt in Hakko Ryu Ju-Jitsu, and our oldest received an award for Male Student of the Year in the same dojo.
We are so proud of all of the boys for all of their many efforts!!
And the action continues with Rocks on the Porch as I head to Monee in December! Check out the link in the comments.
As to the video...I tried..😆 apparently my vocal "step" could use a bit more "pep" this morning. Perhaps coffee is required. 🤣
Love to you all!! Hope to see you in December!

Some very different things happening at Rocks on the Porch. Almost two decades ago we became a "from scratch" house, partly out of interest, but more out of necessity. Overall it's been a very good change that has continued to teach us. It also connects us more closely to seasonal cycles. For instance, in the fall we have some specific things that we make sure to do, most of them involve making our own convenience foods: jams, relishes, ferments, and other things best made when their harvest time comes around that will be quite tasty later in the year when their components are out of season.
This past week was our time to pick peppers and make giardinera. I've revamped an old family recipe to the point where it looks absolutely nothing like the original recipe, but I'm quite happy with it and we think it tastes better-especially this second batch 😋. The first one all went off to family and close friends, and I'm hoping at least some of the second batch stays with us...though I have the distinct feeling I'll be starting on the 3rd in a day or two. 😆
I currently have one stone started; that's about all that's on my table, and she has stopped talking for the time being--which works out well enough for my schedule. For now the focus stays largely on spending a little time in the present to ensure a bit easier time in the near future.
Happy fall everyone!!

We are INSIDE today at The Rustic Fox Farmer and Artisan Market.
Wow did it turn out to be a beautiful day!!!
😍😍😍 😍😍
Early this morning, loading the van I was a touch worried, but it is nothing but bright beautiful sunshine here in Carol Stream.
Matthias and I are here ready to greet you. I may do some onsite painting if time allows.
Come and visit; come to watch; come because it's a gorgeous fall day, whatever you like. We would love for you to come so we can say hello to you. 🤗
