Big Blue Pressure Washing

When you’re washing a galvalume roof (see the photos below), you really cannot use bleach, as you would on a traditional asphalt shingle roof.

Galvalume roofs are an aluminum zinc alloy and are coated from the factory with a clear acrylic coating. Over time that acrylic coating will wear away and the zinc underneath can oxidize. It’s not a structural concern, but it doesn’t look nice.

Now, if bleach comes in contact with an area where the acrylic has worn off (which there’s no way of telling where these spots are), the metal can “flash black” and there’s no reversing it.

So how do you clean a metal roof? You have to brush it. Brush it by hand with water.

That’s what we did for this customer in Flower Estates. It’s a laborious job, but in the words of our customer:

“You guys added $15,000 to the value of my house”.
