DPX files are a SMPTE standard digital file format that is popular with both Hollywood and film archives because of the way the file stores dense color information, allowing for future color grading without “baking in” color.
Scene Savers typically scans 8mm/Super8, 16mm, and 35mm films “over-scanned” to include the film’s frame edge, optical track, and sometimes even sprocket holes. This ensures pixel or sound information is preserved in the DPX master.

The National Endowment for the Humanities Collections Stewardship program was created to fund preservation projects and provide access to physical and digital collections that are important for research, teaching, and public engagement in the humanities.
These awards (up to $350,000 for a single organization or $500,000 for a consortium) support libraries, archives, museums, and colleges/universities working to provide access to their archives & collections.
The applications for the first round of awards are due on May 11, 2026.
