How We Inspect Your A/C System for Refrigerant Leaks.

If your vehicle’s AC isn’t blowing cold, low refrigerant may be the cause, but refrigerant doesn’t disappear without a leak. We recover the refrigerant from the AC system and measure the exact amount removed. This tells us whether the system is low and how much refrigerant has been lost. We then recharge the system to the manufacturer’s specified amount and add UV leak detection dye. As refrigerant escapes, the dye travels with it and helps reveal the leak location during an inspection with a UV light. Finding the source of the leak allows us to recommend the correct repair instead of repeatedly adding refrigerant.

Is your car’s A/C colder on the passenger side than on the driver’s side? This 2020 Hyundai Sonata came to Riverside Auto Center with noticeably colder air coming from the passenger side vents. After testing the A/C system, we found that the refrigerant level was low because of a leak. Low refrigerant can cause the evaporator to cool unevenly, making the air from one side of the dashboard colder than the other. We recharged the A/C system to the proper level and added UV leak-detection dye. As refrigerant escapes in the future, the dye will help reveal the source of the leak so the correct repair can be recommended. Uneven vent temperatures can be an early warning that your A/C system is losing refrigerant.

Had your vehicle’s A/C recharged, only to have it start blowing warm again a few months later? This 2019 Nissan Maxima had its A/C recharged in April, but by September, the cold air was gone again. When it arrived, the refrigerant level was very low. We recharged the system and added UV leak-detection dye to locate the source. The dye appeared at the A/C evaporator drain, confirming that the evaporator underneath the dashboard was leaking. Because the A/C system is sealed, it should not normally lose refrigerant. Repeated recharges may provide temporary relief, but they don’t repair the leak. We replaced the evaporator and verified that the A/C was blowing cold again.

Your vehicle will often give you warning signs before a problem gets worse. This 2021 Ford F-150 came to us with a loud roaring noise from the rear that became more noticeable during acceleration. After testing and inspection, we traced the noise to worn rear differential pinion bearings. We replaced the worn pinion bearings. Catching the problem when we did helped prevent additional wear and the possibility of a much more extensive rear differential repair. Unusual humming, roaring, grinding, or whining noises can be signs that something like worn bearings needs attention. Don’t ignore a noise just because the vehicle still drives normally.
