β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’š Happy Juneteenth! β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’š

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a day that marks freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of equality. On June 19, 1865, news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texasβ€”more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our nation’s history, honor the strength and contributions of African Americans, and celebrate the progress that has been made while recognizing the work that still lies ahead.

As we gather with family, friends, and community, let us continue to learn from the past, uplift one another, and build a future rooted in unity, respect, and opportunity for all.

β€œFreedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

🌻🐝 Another Amazing Day at Atoka Railroad Recycle Camp! β™»οΈπŸš‚

Yesterday, we had a blast at our 2nd Atoka Railroad Adventure Plus Recycle Camp of the summer! The kids enjoyed a fun-filled day of learning, creativity, and adventure.

We started by making bird feeders, giving our feathered friends a helping hand while learning about the importance of wildlife and pollinators. We also gathered together for a story time, enjoyed some tasty snacks, and relaxed with a fun movie.

One of the highlights of the day was our Pollinator Bingo Scavenger Hunt, where campers explored the park searching for pollinators and other items on their bingo cards. It was exciting to watch them learn about nature while having so much fun!

To top it all off, every child went home with a goodie bag filled with fun treats and educational items.

A huge thank you to all of the campers, parents, volunteers, and partners who help make these camps possible. Seeing these kids learn about recycling, conservation, and the environment while creating memories is what it’s all about. πŸ’š

We will back at it in July with some new and fun things! Sign up!

Thank you for having us out! We had an amazing time!

A huge shout out to my officers for taking valuable time to assist with not only the bird feeders but building the keepsake boxes and Amanda Marie Faurbo, owner of Atoka Railroad Adventure Plus, and Vice President of our board! She always shows up, jumps in, and takes charge.

I’m super thankful for her commitment, loyalty, and friendship! I could not have done today without these 3!

β˜€οΈπŸŒ» Kicking Off Summer the Right Way! πŸπŸ¦‹

Today we officially kicked off our summer recycling camp season at Atoka Railroad Adventure, and what a fantastic morning it was!

Our campers got creative by making their own bird feeders (eating the product was a plus as well πŸ€ͺ) and decorating their bags with everything from beautiful pollinator flowers to butterflies, bees, and even a few favorite cartoon characters (because creativity has no limits! πŸ˜„).

Deanna Webb with Hometown Realty read a book about litter in Tennessee and we had a great discussion about why it’s important to keep our communities clean. The kids participated in a fun Q&A session where they shared what items are considered litter, what animals can be affected by litter, and what materials can and cannot be recycled. We were so impressed by how much they already knew and how eager they were to learn more!

To wrap up the day, the campers enjoyed Pollinator Bingo, exploring the park and searching for pollinators in their natural habitat.

There is nothing better than watching young minds learn, explore, and connect with nature while having fun. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first camp of the summer, we can’t wait to see what adventures the rest of the season brings!

A huge thank you to Store Manager, Noah with Tractor Supply Co. in Covington for their generous donation of bird seed to support our upcoming recycling camps!

Because of your kindness, campers at the Atoka Railroad Adventure Plus and the Birds & Bees Camp with the Boys & Girls Club of the Hatchie River Region (Covington) will have the opportunity to learn more about wildlife, conservation, and the important role we all play in protecting our environment.

Partnerships like this help make hands-on environmental education possible, and we are incredibly grateful for businesses that invest in our youth and our community.

Thank you for helping us inspire the next generation of environmental stewards! πŸŒ±πŸ¦β™»οΈ
