We would love to thank Julie and Donna Jean for speaking with our Family and Friends group the other week. Julie provided an excellent discussion around housing and employment for individuals with disabilities. Donna Jean, Glen Ellyn Village Trustee, shared valuable views about the processes of the Village and how they support people with disabilities. We are truly thankful for the productive and thoughtful discussions.

Please join us for our next Family and Friends event on September 12th where we will hear from Lexi, an Occupational Therapist.

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of equitable access to mental health care and to help break down the barriers that many minority communities face when seeking support.

In honor of this month, we're featuring Ana Perez, a bilingual counselor, as she shares the importance of mental health, reducing stigma, and ensuring that everyone has access to care in a language and environment where they feel understood.

Mental health matters. Every voice deserves to be heard, and every person deserves support. πŸ’š

Thank you, Ana, for sharing your expertise and helping create a more inclusive and compassionate community!

At HH you might hear us talking about Equally Valued. This week on Breaking it Down with Bill we talk about why it is our Vision for people with IDD to be Equally Valued in all communities.

Bill talks about the importance of moving beyond inclusion. We must move toward equally valued. People with IDD bring so much value not only to the workplace but to life. Parents, siblings, and other family members see this with their loved one every single day. The Vision of Helping Hand is it get everyone to see this value. Spend an afternoon with a person who has IDD and you will see the kindness, patience, and understanding they provide to everyone around them.

Please join us as we push Equally Valued in all communities. To learn more about HH please visit helpinghand-il.org
