Like Painting With Light
The art of Jack Hunt, photography, and painting feels right at home in Roscoe Village Ohio However I make images wherever I find myself. Thanks Jack
Art has always been my main interest, I like to paint landscapes and started using photography to record places I intended to paint or draw later. From there it evolved into using the camera to paint with light as an art form of its own. The images in the file “It's like painting with light” are more in line with what I really like to do with a camera. That being the case I am starting a new commu

I sort of have a thing for old trucks. Miss Jan and I were riding around one afternoon down around Marietta on a back road several years ago when I spotted this 1948 Chevy pick up truck sitting in a field. Of course I took a bunch of photographs but this one was my favorite of the day. These old trucks sure bring back memories for me. This one reminds me of spending summers with my grandma when I was about 10 years old. It was a different time back then and folks dressed to go to the store. So sometimes grandma would say Jack get in the truck I want you to do me a favor. She would climb up in that old Chevy truck push the clutch in with her left foot while mashing the starter down with her right foot. The old six cylinder would come to life and away we'd go to the local A&P store. We'd pull up front and grandma would give 30 cents and send me inside for a pack of Old Golds. The cashier would look out the big window and wave at grandma, who would smile and wave back. Gee they'd both probably go to prison in today's world wouldn't they?

It's been a while since I've gone fishing, but I still love heading up to Lake Erie near Port Clinton for a day or two. There's nothing quite like enjoying some freshly caught, pan-fried golden Walleye fillets! Plus, Port Clinton is just a stone's throw from Marblehead, this charming little village in Ottawa County, and the Marblehead Lighthouse. This is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes, guiding ships safely since 1822. Miss Jan and I love going up there to catch the beautiful sunrise. With the beautiful scenery and the incredible Walleye fishing, you can see why it's one of our favorite spots to unwind, and why I get to daydreaming about Marblehead this time of year. I think it was probably all that daydreaming that led me to create a mixed medium piece called "A Marblehead Fantasy. The lighthouse itself is all that is left of the original photograph.

"The Corn Shock Buck - Captured the essence of winter in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, near Peoli where I love to photograph old barns and farms. On a chilly, windy afternoon, I snapped this scene of corn shocks in a snowy field, later transforming it into a nightscape. Blue hues set the mood under a full moon, lighting up an Amish farm where a majestic buck forages in the moonlight.

“Queen Anne's 1940 FORD You might recognize the barn and field of Queen Anne's Lace in this one. The original photo was from several years ago of a barn not far outside Newcomerstown Ohio. It has always been one of my favorites because I like the way the Queen Anne's Lace filled the bottom half of the image. It seemed like a good place to park an old truck and so when some collectors bbegan asking for more truck prints.. There are only two photographs in this composite. I simply added the pickup truck to the field of flowers with a few shadows and bright spots. I changed the windows on the truck to make them somewhat transparent.

About 6am on a foggy Coshocton County morning found me standing on a quiet dirt road somewhere in the serene Mill Creek Township. As I gazed out, I watched the sun begin its ascent, trying its best to burn a hole through the thick veil of fog that surrounded me. The image that appeared as it came from the camera looked almost entirely monotone, void of all vibrant color and life. Where the sun was peeking through, it revealed only a bright spot in the mist, a suggestion of warmth in a cool atmosphere. The sun was later added to the scene, along with very pale yellows and soft pinks, to give the image a gentle, glowing color. When it came time to name this piece and I reflected on what it was like standing there in the middle of all this only one word came to mind. QUIET.
