Sometimes leaving a tree trunk in place as a snag is a good option instead of removing it entirely. This isn't the case of it's near a house or in a trafficked area where it could cause damage when it falls. Creating snags likes this helps to replace some of the that is lost through new development, and you may get some new neighbors, which is pretty cool.
