Way to go, Teagan! 🐎✨

One of our long-time riders, Teagan, is showing off some of her riding skills! Today she was our super model demonstrating some of the games and activities we do at Bit By Bit.

Teagan uses her reins to direct her horse, Gem, through pole obstacles. She also uses her hand-eye coordination to pick up rings around the arena and stretches to hook them onto the tower. She also uses her strong core to stay centered as she weaves through poles!

Keep up the good work Teagan! πŸ’ͺ

This weekend Bit By Bit had a pasture work party πŸ₯³

A group of volunteers came out to secure the perimeter and pick weeds in the indoor locations large back field. With the pasture almost completed, Gem and Ardie were able to enjoy a bigger turnout! ❀️🐴

Next step is to put up more fencing to make each horse their own outdoor turnout! We are also excited to leave a large space for... well... keep tuned for more updates to see what we do! πŸ˜‰

Journey is wide eyed and excited for a donation given by Wilco! Wilco generously donated 3 buckets of treats, 3 buckets of feed through dewormer, and a case of gastrogold. Thank you wilco!

And thank you to everyone who donated! Everyone's donations funded one ton of hay! With treats replenished and our hay stacked, we can't help be feel so grateful for our community 🐴❀️

We are gathering our resources and working on more fundraising efforts, so please stay tuned!

Bit By Bit would like to announce publicly that our horses have been staying at the indoor facility full time since October due to health concerns at our home base barn. Our other animals remain at the home base. While the landfill expansion has been denied by the Benton County Commissioners (more info can be found here: https://www.bentoncountyor.gov/coffin-butte-landfill/), the land and air is still contaminated with pollutions and causing the horses to feel ill (more info about the air pollution can be found here:https://apps.oregon.gov/oregon-newsroom/OR/DEQ/Posts/Post/Coffin-Butte-Landfill-order-2026-0311).

Republic Services/ Valley Landfills has filed an appeal to LUBA ( Land use board of appeals). No hearings have been scheduled yet.

We are very grateful to have the use of our temporary indoor facility and do be able to have our horses in a safe, clean, and quiet loctaion. Unfortunately, horses staying at the indoor full time has increased our programs running costs. We can no longer buy our bedding in bulk which can increased costs significantly. Fuel and feed costs have gone up as well.

Volunteers have been working endlessly to make our indoor location comfortable for the horses. We've been downsizing and selling tack, spent 3 days dragging the arena to keep it flat and smooth, the fields have been spread with manure to plug gopher holes and grow high quality grass for grazing, the larger back field has been rototilled to be used for turnout and to build an outdoor obstacle course for riders

Our volunteers have been putting in a lot of effort, could our donors meet us halfway?

Here's what your donations can do for Bit By Bit today:

$5 bag of carrots/apples
$8 bag of bedding
$12 bag of horse treats
$15 70lb bale of hay
$20 orchard hay pellets
$30 equine senior grain
$40 equine enrich grain

Links to donate are in the comments, thank you all so much for your contributions!

Bit By Bit has been quiet recently but we are ready to share some major updates in the program: Look for additional posts this week.

Until then we would like to extend our gratitude to PVMA! This pre-veterinary group came out to the barn for a volunteer work party. They helped us clean the indoor location's back field for horse turnout!

This awesome group pulled 3 trash bags full of tansy, loped down blackberry bushes along the fence line, and prepped the fence to put up hot wire to make horse turnout! Thank you to PVMA!
