I usually write up a workout for Emily concentrating on areas we are working on but every once in a while I like her to have a voice in what she is doing. She uses her Nova Chat to make choices from exercises she is familiar with. It gives her a sense of independence and she comes out of the session feeling confident in her abilities.

When working on teaching a new skill I find using colorful dots helpful. Many of my clients have processing problems and having a marker showing them the correct position enables them to be more successful.

Emily is nonverbal and can not tell me verbally what it is she wants to do at the gym. We have created a page on her speaking device that has choices for her. Although I have control on what we are working on she is able to pick which exercises she would like to do first. It gives her a voice and control of what we are doing.
