🇺🇸🪡Red, White & Sew... WOW, what a wonderful summer day camp series! Today we wrapped up our series on sewing to help youth learn the basics of sewing and so much more through sewing quilts for a cause. We hope to donate 8 quilts to local veterans through the Quilts of Valor Foundation this Fall thanks to the hard work and dedication of our youth who participate in this s program. Beyond sewing skills, our youth learned patience, collaboration, focus, and problem-solving! It was such a joy to watch them enjoy sewing... a skill they will carry with them for a lifetime!
We are very grateful to Mrs. Christie Robbins for bringing this series to life and leading our youth in this effort. She provided the fabric, resources, and leadership for this series. We are also thankful to Mrs. Teresa Fogerty for being dedicated to help each week teaching youth skills along the way.
We are looking forward to the day we can present these quilts of love to veterans who have served our country so that we may enjoy the peace and liberties we do each day in America.
Here are some pictures of the final days of the series and the quilts nearing final stages. From the agent: "I could add quite a few more photos, but I'm afraid the words I've written and even the photos we have on file will never completely describe how wonderful this series was for our youth and the adults involved. There are some great seamstresses in this group!"

What a great opportunity to collaborate with Alcorn Central Elementary School once more! Dr. Sims presented a brief lesson on friction and then allowed youth participating in the summer program to make clipmobile cars and compete based on distance the clipmobile traveled. Each had unique designs and many lessons were learned along the way. Thank you, Valerie McDonald, for the invitation!

If your school is interested in having 4-H programming, please reach out to the 4-H Extension Agent Dr. Julie Sims at 662-286-7756 or [email protected].

Red, White, & Sew Summer Day Camp Series has been a wonderful experience thus far. We have had over 10 youth participate who are working diligently to make quilt squares for their Quilts of Valor Foundation quilts to give to local veterans. They have learned basic sewing skills, hand stitching, sewing personality, and so much more! We are grateful to have Christie Robbins leading this series along with Teresa Fogerty, volunteer from Tishomingo County, who are helping our youth. We finished week 2 this week and will begin week 3 of 4 next week.
