This morning, I lost my right-hand man. Senator Gary Stubblefield, my dear friend and right-hand seat mate in the Senate Chamber, died early this morning at UAMS. He had been in critical condition in the ICU for several days, but those of us that knew him held to the fact that he was a fighter - in every way, and tough as boot leather. There was no guile or anything phony about Gary. What you see is what you get. With practically no experience playing football, he walked on at the University of Arkansas and became a Razorback. Not on one of these 5-5 or 6-6 teams, but the great Razorback teams of the late 60s and early 70s. The bond that we shared was exceeded only by my love and admiration for this exceptional person. There is not a single good word in English to describe Gary, but there is a Yiddish word that fits: Mensch. A person of integrity and honor. A real man. This photo was taken at the Marine Barracks in Washington, where we were hosted by a young Gunnery Sergeant. I will miss you, my dear friend. I know exactly where you are now. Prayers for Kathi and the entire Stubblefield family.

What a great day for Conway and the University of Central Arkansas, as we dedicated the new Bill Cope Memorial Hangar for the UCA Aviation Academy. Thanks to all who made this possible - Dr. Houston Davis, Dr. Brad Teague, Governor Sanders, the UCA Board, Central Flying Service, Simmons Bank, and many others. I especially want to thank my great friend Rick Edwards for his idea that was the beginning of what is now this tremendous facility. The U.S. has a serious shortage of commercial pilots, and UCA is now helping to train new ones, contributing to this important segment of our economy.

I always enjoy the North Pulaski Republican Women's Barbara Kehler Memorial Fish Fry. Great turnout last night, and excellent keynote speech by our great Attorney General, Tim Griffin. (With NLR House candidate Bo Renshaw, State Representative Keith Brooks, House Speaker State Representative Brian Evans, State Representative David Ray, and Attorney General Tim Griffin.
