WHAT WE DO WEDNESDAY 🔎

It's time to ride along with another member of for the next edition of What We Do Wednesday.

This week, we're talking tech with a close look at Horry County Public Works' pipe inspection camera truck.

As an Engineering Technician, Blake Cooper performs pipe inspections for road construction projects, including RIDE, and for the general maintenance of Horry County's roadways.

Come along with us as he inspects the new infrastructure installed beneath Bedford Road in the Nichols area, which is part of RIDE 3's Dirt Road Paving projects.

EARLY VOTING BEGINS 🗳️

A reminder early voting for the Statewide Primary Runoffs begins today (6/17/26) and will continue through tomorrow (6/18/26).

There are seven early voting locations in Horry County, all open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

STATEWIDE PRIMARY RUNOFFS 🗳️

The Statewide Primary Runoffs will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Please note: Only voters who cast a ballot in the Republican primary on June 9, 2026, or who did not vote in the primary election, are eligible to vote in the June 23, 2026, runoff election.

This means if you placed a Democratic ballot in the primary on June 9, 2026, you are not eligible to participate in the runoff election on June 23, 2026.

There are four runoff elections:

✅ Republican nomination for Governor
✅ Attorney General
✅ Agriculture Commissioner
✅ Horry County Board of Education District 10

Only voters residing in District 10 will be eligible to vote in the Horry County Board of Education District 10 runoff race. Early voting for the Statewide Primary Runoffs will be held June 17-18, 2026.

Horry County early voting locations, open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., include:

✅ Aynor Town Hall: 600 S. Main St., Aynor, SC 29511
✅ Carolina Forest Recreation Center: 2254 Carolina Forest Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579
✅ HGTC Business Center: 950 Crabtree Ln. Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
✅ Loris Public Safety Building: 3909 Walnut St., Loris, SC 29569
✅ North Strand Recreation Center: 120 Highway 57 S, Little River, SC 29566
✅ South Strand Recreation Center: 9650 Scipio Lane, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588
✅ Voters Registration and Elections: 1515 4th Avenue, Conway, SC 29526

GARDEN CITY INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS 🚦

All the orange barrels on the south end of Horry County are part of a RIDE initiative to improve several intersections along U.S. Highway 17 Business.

The Garden City Intersection Improvement Project aims to reduce traffic congestion at these intersections:

🚦US 17 Business @ Garden City Connector/Pine Avenue
🚦US 17 Business @ Atlantic Avenue
🚦US 17 Business @ Inlet Square Mall/Mt. Gilead Road
🚦US 17 Business @ Tadlock Drive

When the work is complete, drivers will notice wider, extended intersections, as well as longer turn lanes to improve capacity and safety.

The anticipated completion date for this RIDE 3 project between 2028 and 2029.

When you’re spending time outdoors this summer, especially during peak mosquito activity at dawn and dusk, consider these mosquito-smart wardrobe choices:

👖Long-sleeved shirts and long pants
⚪Choose light-colored clothing, which is less attractive to mosquitoes than darker colors
🧦Wear socks and closed-toe shoes
🧢Add a hat to help protect your head, neck and ears

A few simple clothing choices can help you stay more comfortable and bite-free this summer.

All Horry County Government offices and facilities will be closed Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth.

Horry County public safety agencies will remain operational. In the event of an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

ON THE MAP WITH OUR CADASTRAL MAPPING SPECIALIST

We’d like to give a big congratulations to Nanette Schmader, GIS Mapping Manager with the Horry County Assessor’s Office on obtaining her Cadastral Mapping Specialist (CMS) designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO).

This professional designation demonstrates that Nan has attained one of the highest honors the profession can bestow upon individuals in this line of work.

Nan spent two years working to obtain this designation, highlighting her commitment to excelling in her abilities to best serve the residents of Horry County.

This designation, and the training and knowledge that come with it, allows Nan to support the assessing of property values by having professional expertise in cadastral mapping and the interpretation of deeds, plats, and other land records that support property tax valuation and the maintenance of the County cadastre.
