Another Business Closed --- Every few weeks it seems another restaurant, store, or small business in the Myrtle Beach area announces they’re closing.

Some people blame the economy. Others blame rent, staffing, or rising costs.

But there’s another reason that doesn’t get talked about enough:

Many businesses simply aren’t being seen.

The Grand Strand is one of the most competitive business environments in the Southeast. Thousands of restaurants, shops, attractions, and service businesses are all competing for the same customers. Even great businesses can struggle if people never hear about them.

Think about it for a moment.

When locals want to try something new, how do they usually discover it?

- They search Google
- They scroll Facebook
- They see a post shared by a friend
- They check local event or community pages
- They come across something while browsing online

When visitors come to the beach, it’s similar.

Yes, some people still drive around and notice places, but most people today are doing things like:

- Searching “best seafood near me”
- Looking for recommendations in Facebook groups
- Checking Google Maps
- Browsing local websites about the area
- Seeing places mentioned online before they even arrive

If your business isn’t showing up in those places, it’s very easy to be overlooked.

And here’s something else many people don’t realize:

A large percentage of visitors to the Grand Strand actually come from right here in South Carolina - some stats show up to 80%

Families from Columbia, Charleston, Florence, and other parts of the state travel to Myrtle Beach multiple times a year. Many of them plan where they’ll eat, shop, and visit before they even leave home.

Which means if your business isn’t online - or isn’t active online - they may never know you exist.

Years ago a good location and a roadside sign might have been enough.

Today, businesses almost don’t have a choice anymore.
